HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A 20-year-old student at a Connecticut university has died after choking during a pancake eating contest on campus.

According to the article, this young woman’s father died on 9/11. Her poor mother! Please say a quick prayer for the girl and her mother.
Nobody knew the heimlich maneuver or how to make an emergency tracheotomy as a last resort? I learned that when I was 11 in Boy scouts but I guess teaching basic life saving techniques is racist in todays schools or maybe it is too offensive and will force students into their safe spaces. Absolutely outrageous that she died.
Not much info at the site. Now there’ll be a call to ban food-eating contests.
What we need is pancake control, particularly assault pancakes.

Choking deaths are not uncommon, and are sad. But this one is odd. How does one die three days after a choking incident? Did it take too long for help to arise, so that she suffocated long enough to suffer serious brain damage? Did she get something deep into her lungs? I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a choking incident that didn’t have a quick resolution one way or the other.
Probably institute more safe spaces where eating is not allowed.

My thought exactly-three days later? I can’t imagine such complications from aspirating a pancake. Then again, when it’s your time...
I did read it, they performed “life saving measures” but obviously they didn’t know what they were doing. NOBODY should die from choking around other people. The only way she could have died is if the pancakes were stuffed into her lungs which I highly doubt. When the Heimlich fails, the next step is a basic life saving technique that any “nursing student” should know like the back of their hand, so what were they doing? You don’t even need a razor blade or a straw, a pen will suffice.......

I think they are stupid and I think people who participate are stupid. Still, it’s a free country - sort of.
