Global warming could be solved by genetically engineering or breeding cows to fart less Bill "The Science Guy" Nye said in an interview Tuesday.

Nye was responding to a question from a vegan on how eating meat could reduce the world's greenhouse gas emissions.

Environmentalists are very interested in reducing methane from cow farts, with some groups like Friends of the Earth pressuring public schools to switch their lunch menus away from beef to reduce emissions.
The Obama administration released a methane plan in 2014 that called for reducing emissions from the dairy industry 25 percent. That meant finding ways to capture or reduce emissions from cow farts and burps. Republican lawmakers, however, were quick to criticize the White House’s proposal, arguing the government could end up taxing cow farts.

How do those numbers compare with the volume of gas emitted by the AGW crowd?
Bovine digestion works off of fermentation.
So Bill is off his gourd.
Still, there IS a way to genetically engineer cows so that they’ll more efficiently turn food into beef and that is to make them huge.
Fermentation digestion is one of the few biological processes that really benefits form increased scale (most others bog down) so a big stomach will brew tough foliage more efficiently, take less energy to convert that to a useable form, and as such require proportionally less food to produce the same amount of beef.
Individual animals will, in fact, fart MORE ... but there would be fewer of them needed.
Giant cattle would add emphasis to “Don’t cross this field unless you can do it in 9 seconds ... because the bull can do it in 10.” signs.

Nye is not a scientist. If he were, he’d know that cows don’t make methane; the bacteria in the cow’s rumen make methane.
Try a little genetic manipulation on those guys.
