That Was Then But This Is Now

That Was Then But This Is Now

1. LOCK HER UP.

Donald Trump Then:

After FBI Director James Comey in July recommended not charging Clinton, Trump cited it as evidence the election was “rigged” and said the FBI “rolled over.”

He pledged to appoint a special prosecutor, and even told Clinton during a debate that if he were president, “you’d be in jail.”

Donald Trump Now:

But after he won the election, Trump said he wouldn’t recommend prosecuting Clinton, saying she already “suffered greatly” and that it’s “just not something I feel very strongly about.”

Trump was speaking in Grand Rapids, Mich., as part of his “thank you” tour when he heard some chants of “lock her up” - a common refrain during his campaign events.

“That plays great before the election - now we don't care, right?” Trump responded, according to CNN.

2. DACA

Donald Trump Then:

Opposed DACA and DAPA and called Obama's executive orders on DACA and DAPA “one of the most unconstitutional actions ever undertaken by a President.” –

“We will immediately terminate President Obama’s two illegal executive amnesties in which he defied federal law and the constitution to give amnesty to approximately 5 million illegal immigrants,” Trump said at an August speech in Arizona, where immigration hard-liner Joe Arpaio introduced him.

Donald Trump Now:

“They got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here. Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they’re in never-never land because they don’t know what’s going to happen,” Trump said in an interview with Time.

In an interview that aired Wednesday, Trump said DACA participants shouldn't be "very worried."

“They shouldn’t be very worried, I do have a big heart. We’re going to take care of everybody, we’re going to have a very strong border, we’re going to have a very solid border,” Trump told ABC's David Muir. “You have great people that are here that have done a good job, they should be far less worried.”

3. AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

Donald Trump Then:

As he campaigned for the White House that he declared in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes”: “I am going to take care of everybody … Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.” More recently, Trump has promised that repeal will end with “a beautiful picture.”

Donald Trump Now:

The White House said Monday that President Trump is “absolutely” serious about working with Democrats on health-care legislation and other priorities after conservative Republicans balked at a GOP plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.

“We learned a lot through this process,” said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. “If we can come up with resolution on a way to move forward, we’ll certainly entertain that. I don’t think we’ve seen the end of health care.”

Mr. Trump criticized the conservative House Freedom Caucus for failing to support the administration-backed bill last week, saying they were allowing Obamacare to remain in place and permitting federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

Asked if working with Democrats would require a serious course correction by the administration, Mr. Spicer said, “Sure.”

Stop putting words in my mouth. I said that Trump’s team has mentioned reading other conservative sites. For all I know, they’ve mentioned reading this one. All I’m asking for is to see that mention/cite.

‘we’d have heard about it.’

Just because *I* haven’t heard of it doesn’t mean nobody else has. That’s why I asked: to get information. Try as you might to demonize it/me, it’s not criminal to ask for information.

So you’re making an assumption. I was looking forward to seeing some facts and evidence.

There is proof, incidentally, that Trump’s close advisors read r/The_Donald. I’ve seen nothing similar re FR.

I don’t blame you one freaking bit!

I hope he clarifies his remarks quickly and narrows his criticism if not apologise outright. I staked my reputation on this man, and so did Coulter, and so did many others.

“This is a post-election cycle, not a campaign cycle.”

I believe I may have to steal this because that one statement hits precisely what I feel is happening. A large segment here on FR have taken us completely away from our most obvious principled conservative beliefs by remaining in continual attack mode (aka campaign mode) vs. saying to themselves “what did he just say?”

What tips it off is when the immediate rebuttal to ANY argument is Cruz this or you must be a Cruzbot. When that has nothing to do with the content being discussed. In fact that is what Alinsky liberal radicals do. They deflect then attack the messenger. I’d rather they just come out and call me a tea bagger because at least I’ll then know where they are coming from. Not this pseudo conservatism

When you resort to name-calling you lose by default.

That’s the traditional rule of this forum.

So according to you, it’s a crime to want facts and evidence.

Put another way, assumptions trump facts and evidence, and you want to criminalize me for not acknowledging the superiority of assumptions over facts and evidence.

I and others encouraged the GOP to entrust our fragile republic to him rather than to Cruz. Not only does Trump owe us, we are his only support base.

“I haven’t heard Cruz calling for Congressional investigations into Hillary’s crimes. Perhaps I missed it.”

Let’s stay in topic shall we? This isn’t about Cruz and it hasn’t been since Inauguration Day. I know some would like to deflect and topic of discomfort to the imagined boogeyman man but this is about President Trump, his statement of promises to his supporters and the continued backtracking from the promises he made.

This isn’t about Cruz, Paul, Lee or any other conservative. The man I voted for needs to put his big boy britches on and uphold to his promises. Not make his statements (as one poster said) based on the crowd reaction received.

Talk to the person who introduced Cruz to the thread. I make no apologies for responding to someone else’s post.

Whatever...you said we would have heard about it if they read this site..since no one can point you to concrete evidence...it must not be happening...because

well, they just aren’t smart enough to read FR

“IOW, it’s ok when Trump breaks his promises, major ones at that. He’s done some good things, no doubt, but this retreat on the border fence cuts at the heart of his campaign.”

I want to take point on this. If you mean by instilling once again a National sense of pride and uncovering what has already been known for decades by conservatives then yes I agree. If you mean overturning executive orders through his own executive orders as would be done as a matter of course and actually getting legislation pushed through against what he has promised then no he hasn’t been good at all.

This good thus far has been propagated as a visage with no actual true results. Sure a few thousand “promised” jobs here and there I’ll agree is some level of progress but not the millions that are needed. At this rate his policies thus far will net maybe 100,000 jobs by end of his first term

When did we lose that?

By the time Mister and Mrs. Trump got to the bottom of the escalator ride, many FReepers had lost their powers of discernment.

I’ve said I would be delighted to learn that Trump’s team reads and is influenced by this site. I’ve also said that just because I haven’t heard anything to indicate that they do doesn’t mean it’s not happening. I did, however, note that mentions have been made by Trump’s advisors of other conservative sites. I don’t know why they’d read this one, yet keep that fact a secret.

I remain unconvinced that *somebody* hasn’t heard FR mentioned by Trump or a close advisor. Surprise evidence may yet surface.

Oh dear.

I hope no one thinks I was insulting Rummy earlier.

The ‘Golden Snitch’ is a Quidditch term.

To catch the ‘Golden Snitch’ means you win 150 points and ‘game over’.
