The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee on Monday said he is sure officials in the West Wing had no idea he visited White House grounds to view classified material last week.
"I'm quite sure people at West Wing had no idea I was there," Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer."
Nunes also contended his visit was not the clandestine trip he said the media reported it to be.
"I wasn't trying to hide," Nunes said, adding that he stopped to talk to several people during the visit, including foreign dignitaries.
"If I wanted to, I could have snuck onto the White House grounds at night when nobody would have seen me," he said, disputing reports that he made the trip at night.

IF Obama compromised key portions of the Secret Service and the NSA as I suspect they did, then what would they want more than anything? Access to the computers in the West Wing.

He's been under attack from the other committee members, and the press since he made the announcement about the unmasking of names. They were complaining that he hadn't told them that he was making it. All of them got the same letter from Larry Klayman about his client with the proof about the surveillance. I figured Nunes made the announcement without their knowledge because he didn't trust any of them not to leak it beforehand. Because they'd gotten their panties in a wad, he later apologized for not clearing it through them first. Now he's under fire for going to the White House.
