That’s what really worries me about Trump; that he has no core beliefs that resemble conservatism (if anything, he’s liberal) and all he wants is the adoration of the crowds for ‘winning’. This is why he keeps booking rallies IMVHO, to recharge his attention battery.
He didn’t want a solid healthcare bill that reflected what he sold us on; he wanted to gloat that he got something done and is now pissed and lashing out at the ones who got him where he is and stood firming on conservative values.
Rather than negotiate w/ Trump the FC decided to play hardball and humiliate him. Now the press and the progressives are licking their chops.

The entire movement hangs by a thread. I’ve been coming to FR for 20 years or so and we have never had the complete toolbox.
That’s pretty much where I am at. I don’t like Ryancare. Process sucked. Much of the bill is troubling. But at the end of the day POTUS wanted it and needed it to help propel the rest of his agenda.
Next year there are mid terms. Nothing major will get done.
It’s now or never and now POTUS will be stuck in neutral for quite some time.
The Dems, progressive GOPers and never Trump corportists are ecstatically doing victory laps today. If that doesn’t buy doctrine conservatives a clue nothing will.
It bears repeating: we hang together behind POTUS or we hang separately. It’s that simple. Hopefully, we can rally and keep the rent seeking beltway careerists in check while POTUS takes care of business.

But joking aside, I do not think it is a political death wish to turn the clock back to before ACA. I mean I thought deporting illegal aliens with US citizen children would look bad, but it’s happening now and i don’t see that much of a blow back.
Trump is very close to losing the coalition that elected him. It’s not his fault Ryan failed. But his now clear embrace of Ryancare and his public slamming of the conservatives who would not support a replace bill that still includes the individual mandate, larger penalty charges and no free market competition alinates the base that elected him.
I hold on to the hope Trump is playing poker with congress on this, but after today I really am fearing Trump is turning against those who elected him.
Once the democrats promise they will do something, like either gays in the military, higher taxes or Obamacare, they move heaven and earth to get it done.
Our side always loses because one group always promises what they have no intention of delivering and when the time comes when they can deliver, they always have a reason why what they promised is either no longer possible or no longer necessary. Do what is right and what is true and we will stand together. The truth is not holding us together because some don't want the truth, or have absolutely no idea what truth is or why it is even necessary.
For those who weren't in California, or have tried to suppress their memory of his disastrous tenure, Schwarzenegger was elected on a populist conservative agenda, and his first policy move was to put three good conservative measures out for special election. They all lost, and he pivoted to the dems who ran the state because we wanted to "get stuff done", and turned into a lousy liberal governor.

I’d like to get the wall built. And many other items on the Trump agenda done even if that meant giving him a big mulligan on Ryancare. Apparently, you don’t want the Trump agenda. You seem to prefer a Ryan-McConnell corportist agenda which is the ONLY alternative for the next 4 years.
All the other items on the Trump agenda just got much harder thanks to the arsonists in the freedom caucus.
What’s your end game here? Are you a Cruzlim? Paulistinian? Democrat? They’re all happy the bill failed so I’d say you keep good company here.
I don’t accept it, but this will be one of the moments in time, in my estimation, when we will look back and say we should take any deal we can so long as it move the sticks down the field even if only a first down at a time. Why? Because what we have for the next 20 months, maybe, 44 months, is the most right wing government we will see probably ever again, barring some major world aligning event. Standing on principle and wasting 5% of the time we have to govern is completely unacceptable.
Reality:
We won this election and lost the popular vote by a few million. Do you really think they will not be mobilized next time in the mid west? Pulling this off again will be beyond difficult.

You can stand on principle all you want, but if you are not at least stopping the bleeding and/or moving ahead, even if only a little, we are wasting our time.
I didn’t like it all that much, but passing that bill would have maintained momentum and given us cover for a fat ass tax cut thru the CBO. We needed to deflate their base too, weaken their energy. They are now amped and have been rewarded for their insane behavior.
Trump couldn’t get the GOP to agree. Give into the FC and the moderates fell off, etc. He’s not going to waste time with them if they can’t, or Ryan can’t, get their act together. He’s going to move left because he’s a man of action more than he is a conservative. Don’t get me wrong, he’s mostly conservative on most issues, but he’s not an ideologue which is why he’s happy to talk to anyone. He wants results and wants to get $hit done, I genuinely think he will deal with anyone from either party on equal footing.
Don’t ever think Trump won’t mix in a medicare for all concept with some blend of cross border competitive health care market for those who can afford it and present that as a grand compromise.

He’s “turning against” those who went AWOL when the bullets starting flying for the first time. How can you really blame him for that?
But that doesn't mean I'll give him carte blanche every time he supports an initiative in Congress that is both: (1) ineffective, and (2) politically destructive (especially to HIM).

The staff needs cleaning and refreshing immediately. Also, a lot of myths need to be busted ASAP. Trump was praised for a conservative supreme court pick, as he should have been. However, he pushed a RINO health care bill with 17% support. If the nationalist/populist/RINO wing of the administration has it’s way, he will be a one termer and the congress will change hands.
Simply do what you said you would do! People may not have known exactly what they wanted, but for sure they wanted bold, gutsy change. People who say what they mean and mean what they say. It’s not that difficult to figure out. Moving to the left leaves us with the same result as 43.
The one reason I disagree with you on this is that it is March of 2017, not the summer of 2018. In fact, I suspect the GOP cobbled together this shoddy, half-assed "fix" bill just to get it out of the way a year and a half before any of them are up for re-election. Maybe they even did it just to satisfy their Chamber of Commerce and insurance industry pimps and get a B+ for trying.
I think we should all reserve judgment on this until November-December of this year. Once the 2018 insurance renewal notices start going out in October, you'll see a dramatic change in attitude in Washington as every member of Congress scrambles to calm their outraged constituents. There will be a much stronger political will to get something effective done in Washington -- and by "effective" I mean ANYTHING that reduces insurance premiums for people and for employers.
In some ways he is already pushing amnesty. Does the unconstitutional Obama DOCA ring a bell?

Too many have invested themselves in Trump instead of conservatism. If Trump is conservative on an issue he should be supported. If he goes liberal and wants to work with dems on amnesty, tax reform, etc then in the words of el rushbo: I hope he fails.
