At Trump’s urging, House Republicans to vote on health-care bill Friday (trunc)

BREAKING NEWS: After a marathon series of negotiations involving President Trump and his top aides Thursday, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) will call a vote on the proposal at Trump’s behest, lawmakers said after a meeting on Thursday night. But lacking sufficient votes to pass it at this point, Republican leaders were still negotiating to see if they could convince enough conservatives to back the measure. “They’re going to bring it up, pass or fail,” said Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho).

This story is developing. It will be updated.

House leaders postponed a vote Thursday on their plan to overhaul the nation’s health-care system, casting doubt on whether President Trump and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) can deliver on one of the GOP’s central promises to the voters who placed Republicans in power.

I know a lot of them. No, they are mostly standup guys. Jim Jordan is the single best rep in the House. They loved Trump when they met with him. Gave him a standing O.

But they have real concerns-—like health care for illegals (which HAS to go), some abortion funding, other things. As I understand the HFC, 80% of them must agree before they will all agree to vote in a certain direction.

This is on Ryan, not on HFC. Ryan has to give on only a few issues like illegals, abortion, etc. Yeah, he’ll lose some “moderates.” But not as many.

Politics, politics, politics... I thought we were post politics with Trump? I don't fault him for this one - this is solely on the GOP congress not being prepared for the many years they have been crying about Obamacare.

I'd rather they do nothing then give us another piece of crap.

If the repeal doesn’t pass the democrats will likely sweep back into power with a mandate to enact single payer healthcare.

Take away the “Obamacare” label, and a large majority of voters support most, and some all of it’s provisions.

Kids up to 26 on mom’s plan. Coverage for preexisting conditions. Everyone gets insurance/access.

Those provisions are possible only under government care, and those provisions are universally popular.

Even if the bill sucks?

i guess we have to pass it to see what’s in it.

Like healthcare for illegals.

Do you think this was a plan that President Trump had all along? I do, knowing how he makes his deals...if things aren’t going right, he gets up and walks out...

This really should be hung around Ryan’s neck, and they should vote him out...

Jim Jordan is a fine person, I wished he would take the Speakers roll, at least we could count on him to get things done for us...

They are typical purists who want everything and will end up settling for nothing.

Now we're purists for wanting to repeal and replace...for wanting to spend some political capital that was won during the election. The GOP had YEARS to get their act together and are failing miserably. If the phase 2 and phase 3 cant be passed now what makes you think it can be passed later? Some DIMS start going soft and will vote for it? Not political reality, the DIMS are playing hardball and will not cave. Secondly, Trump is doing the correct thing here calling for a vote - I hope it fails and we move on to Tax reform. Come back to health care later when more people are pissed.

“Even if the bill sucks?”

I abhor all government healthcare. I believe it’s the source of communism. Well, after government schools.

But I recognize political reality. The American People want government healthcare...or all the benefits only government healthcare can provide.

Ryancare is NOT repeal, it’s rearranging.

Take away the “Obamacare” label, and a large majority of voters support most, and some all of it’s provisions.

Maybe in Dumbfuckistan, but not in Amerca. Obamacare has been a man-caused disaster, and I work in the industry. High drug prices, drug shortages, insurance premiums through the roof, skyrocketing deductables.

Obamacare was nothing more than a racist wealth transfer scheme targeting middle class productives.

“Yeah, he’ll lose some moderates”

The senate is full of moderates who were already complaining that the Ryan plan cuts to much. Go read the statement that Porter co-wrote with 5 other senators.

If this bill doesn’t pass they will just keep funding obamacare forever.

I don’t remember the “central promises” describing a turkey of a bill like this.

And they are unsustainable.

If it doesn’t pass it will be because of the never Trump RINOS like that idiot Charlie Dent. Most of the conservatives will end up supporting POTUS, IMO.
