I was there before you. In 1968 (68-76), and I did 8+ years so please don’t give me the ‘I re-upped, 42 years and all that.’

I did the same - re-upped and extended more than once. I didn’t make a career of it. And if you are trying to tell me throughout your entire tenure in the military you were ‘always guaranteed’ free-everything on retirement, that’s disingenuous and you know it. Even when I left in 1976 they were limiting retirements based on rank. And even then, it was understood that VA healthcare was for the ones not able to have anything better.

You might be able to shine that off on someone else, but I was there, too and I don’t believe you.

btw, I am pretty sure Washington Examiner is the one responsible for the SS agent Won’t Take A Bullet story resulting in her being eventually relieved from her position.

She was moved sideways. Hopefully to Alaska counting paperclips in a basement.

If you served from 68-76, you were nowhere close to retirement.

Unless you were medically discharged.

All those “guarantees” were retirement benefits. You’re just plain wrong about limiting retirements based on rank.
Now, there was/is a thing called “high year of tenure”, which means you can’t serve for 20 years as an E-4 or below, but that was never a retirement limit, just for total service.

So just curious, what were you when you separated?

Why are veterans punished for their service but other subsidy takers get to see any doc they want. Thanks Rep Meadows for speaking out.

“...all Veteran’s aren’t Military Retirees.”

True. I’m a Veteran, but I’m not retired from the Army. I had to leave with 16+ years of service due to pressing family issues.

This whole argument falsely couches the problem of the ‘veteran’ umbrella when it is a ‘retirement’ issue. I remember the whole thing. I know about retirement Champus, Tri-Care and the whole nine yards - it was about retirees or medically discharged personnel.

The government was adjusting your retirement long before you even retired. And don’t tell me they didn’t limit retirement because I remember you had to be at least an E-5 to get past 20 years service when the 50% kicked in and get more retirement %. I also remember years service limited beyond that 20 23, 25, and 27 to keep the % cut down unless you had a certain rank.

My rank didn’t have a damned thing to do with it and your question about was just elitist rank-conscious crap. I did 8 hard years and mustered out as an E-5 Staff. The entire last two years I was in I was ineligible for promotion because I wouldn’t extend for another damned short tour - this time to Turkey. I did 8 years - 6 years and 11 months of them were overseas. Screw you.

You are a real piece of work. Glad as HELL I never supervised you.

NOT a thing you said invalidates what I said. Didn’t I say you couldn’t get to 20 as an E-4? So you counter you had to be a SSgt. What the F??? Same thing.

Anyway, I don’t intend to take your advise to screw myself. You sound VERY bitter about your military service.

NO ONE is held back from promotion for not taking another short tour. You either pass the promotion test or you don’t UNLESS you got a letter of reprimand or an article 15 too many times. I’ll bet you were well known by the First Sergeant.

Lastly, things really changed after the 70’s. There has been 42 years since you had to say Yes sir/No sir. Even my own experiences can not say a thing about post 9/11 ops tempo, service contracts, etc. You don’t know after 1976; I don’t know after 1998.

But that’s ok. Go ahead and get furious at me anyway you wish. I’ll let you have the last word.

In fact, I can’t wait to read it. I’m already to roll my eyes at your bluster.

Oh go bite me. You when you started would never have ‘supervised’ me, boot. I was a smart intelligent draftee who go caught up in the draft. You’re just a zebra whining because you can’t double dip (and you weren’t able to before this brouhaha over nothing about ‘vets’.) I took a short on a VRB 4 and then extended twice because my career field was overseas limited. 8 + years dipwad.

And you are a complete liar for saying you couldn’t have gotten an ineligibility letter for not extending - they did it to me. That’s just complete sh!t and you know it.

I’m not bitter about my service despite what you think. I am highly thankful for it. It taught me a lot and I gave much more back. I was in fact the best in my AFSN.. I was damned good. And I took that knowledge and translated it into a college degree and a career at which I was much more successful. I could not have gotten to where I stopped with out it.

Frankly, you strike me as one who looked at the rules as they were (ever changing) and adjusted accordingly. I just did what my job required and I got two honorable discharges and was released ... have a nice day dipper.
