I contacted them last week as we need some help. The social worker who called back let me know that my wife and I don’t qualify. I’m 100% totally and permanently disabled (housebound) according to Veterans Affairs and my wife has lost her sight due to strokes. Who exactly qualifies?
Oh my. Each jurisdiction is different.
I will give you an example.
My relative is 100% MENTALLY disabled but can walk and leave the house.. and qualified due to cooking issues...but not at a reduced cost. Had to pay full cost.
I would try to pursue it further. You should qualify.
Btw, if there is any way you qualify even a little bit for MHICAM at the VA..some areas are very good and provide quite a bit of assistance in matters relating to getting things done.
Are you white?
If so, there’s your disqualifyer.
I called the other day and the only qualifications they told me for Meals On Wheels to come to your house was over 60 and unable to drive. They also have cafe's where you can go and eat for $2.75 or a donation. They never said anything about qualifying due to income.
You said a social worker called you back. Did you call the Meals On Wheels directly, because I don't think there is a Social Worker attached to them? This is all done by volunteers. Look on the Internet for your local Meals on Wheels.
