A growing number of the world's super rich are preparing for the apocalypse by purchasing 'doomsday bunkers'.
But don't expect the one per cent to slum it out in drab, concrete dwellings as they survive the end of the world - these bunkers feature some of the most lavish layouts imaginable that are designed for the more modern survivalist.
'Your father or grandfather's bunker was not very comfortable,' Robert Vicino, CEO of Vivos, told CNN.
'They were gray. They were metal, like a ship or something military. And the truth is mankind cannot survive long-term in such a Spartan, bleak environment.'

I remember the ‘Bomb Shelters’ of the late 50’s. IMO they really could not protect you from much. Even if they did, what did you have to came out.
I’d put this in the category of “there’s a sucker born every minute.” I suspect a lot of the people buying these bunkers are Hollywood types who actually believe that Trump’s election heralds the end of the world. So some innovative people are taking old, abandoned military shelters and turning them into “billionaire bunkers” and selling them for a fortune. Note to the dopes who buy these things — unless you have a private army to defend you in them, all these things are are targets for the mobs who will be roaming the streets, raping and pillaging, after the collapse of civilization.
Yeah, so what. Without servants, assistants and toadies they’ll try and boss one another till they kill each other. I’ll take my chances with the apocalypse.

I can see wealthy people creating “getaways” but I would only do it if I was inclined to use it quite a bit.
My location is probably last on the list to be nuked unless the Russians/Chinese are concerned about moonshine and meth so I am living in my bunker.

One of the books in the Jerry Ahern series "The Survivalist" dealt with just such a scenario. When a post-apocalypsian bunker is opened, it turns out that the current "rulers" are descendants of hired help who revolted and took over the bunker.
I’m sorry, but it is highly doubtful that these were built since Trump was elected. Had to have been around for awhile.
What does the owner of 1000 acres of desert with absolutely nothing on it have? Nothing. If it comes to the apocalyptic event, using an analogy, even vampires run out of victims. Who do they bite then and who does the last one bite? Same with the rich. If they have no one to be richer than or what they have means nothing, are they rich?

The really interesting thing is that these people have made fun of preppers for quite sometime now, and they are themselves preppers. What hypocrites they all are.
All well and good until someone left on the outside welds shut the blast doors and “secret” exits. The difference between a bunker and a tomb isn’t subtle.
This vicino guy bout up a bunch of munition bunkers, called igloos from the black hills ordnance depot. Its an old army base built in the 40s
Most are 13’ high,27’ across by 60-80 feet long.

Their brochure says they will with stand 500000 pound blast of tnt.
I worked in them in the 70s.
I wasctold then that they could take a direct hit from a two thousand pound homb.
There are over 800 of them out there but some have been converted to house pigs.
Its totally a barren out of the way place.
I wonder what Mitch McConnel’s and Paul Ryan’s bunkers look like? Did Soros get them nice ones?
