We are raising most children to believe the world is theirs, literally. Life is easy, and fair- utopia at its finest and there is no need for them to have real world knowledge, work ethic, morals, ETC in order to succeed. Someone will hand it all to them on a platter as their parents have done all their lives. I am convinced the sky rocketing drug abuse is their reaction when they find out how things work in the real world.
A son of friends of ours recently died of an overdose. He was on ADD drugs as a kid. There is a pattern of drug addiction problems and several deaths among children of our friends and ADD drugs in childhood.
I know. I know. Correlation is not causation especially when merely anecdotally observed.
Young adults now are to a great percentage children of parents who were brought up with pills and excuses for everything, and not much accountability. Can't afford college, an expensive car or a McMansion....get a loan. Work to pay for a vacation....that's what credit cards are for. A personality that doesn't meet someone's idea of normal....take a pill and shut up. Got a toothache?....here's a painkiller etc Fantasy vs Reality?.....it's all so blurred.
I don't know how our "civilization" walks it back. Sometimes I feel like I'm in one of those sci-fi movies, where one by one everyone is being turned into a zombie by aliens.
