Plant cholla cactus on two-foot centers.

You will only need one introduction to cholla.

Benefit...effective surface control and the horizon is preserved.

Just saying.

We need to make a permanent wall. Sure other ways such as what you are saying are interesting ADDITIONAL ways.

But the wall must be built.

“Plant cholla cactus on two-foot centers.”

That is an idea with some merit.

The cactus bed would need to be 10 to 15 feet or so wide and there would need to be vehicle traps included, perhaps similar to what in WW2 were called “Dragon’s Teeth” placed on five foot centers to prevent someone from driving a truck through the cactus. Adding an 8 footbarbed fence behind the cactus might also be a good idea. Such a barrier could be constructed rapidly, would be pretty effective and be very low maintenance.
