Trump To Sign Law That Increases Drug Tests for Unemployed Seeking Benefits
Conservative Tribune ^ | March 18 2017 | Conservative Tribune

Welfare reform has been a high priority for Republicans and conservatives for many years, and now that President Donald Trump is in the White House, the possibility of such reform is finally feasible.

In what was quite possibly the opening salvo on welfare leeches, Trump was ready to sign a bill passed by Congress that would allow states to perform drug tests on those applying for unemployment benefits, WITI reported.

Under President Barack Obama, states weren’t allowed to test applicants for drugs unless they were applying for a job that already had mandatory drug testing. However, there’s a new sheriff in town — and he’s backed by a Republican-controlled Congress that, while far from perfect, is at least more likely to pass common-sense legislation like this than any legislative body under the control of people like former House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

And they will scream that those drugs are legal. Pot.

Actions have consequences. Hope that Trump can pull this off without some drugged out liberal judge stopping it.

How about random drug testing for government workers?

The fact that most companies now require drug testing is reasonable cause to assure that they are ready and able to go to work.

Just saying Donald,

You need to focus on bringing back jobs to America first.

That is FIRST. Jobs. Then you can focus on making sure people are not abusing things like this.

But focus on American jobs first. Now.

The fact that I agree with your last point does not negate my belief that getting fired or laid off is not an invitation to a drug-addled vacation. As long as my taxes are going toward paying unemployment that is good cause to do drug testing.

In fact, add drug testing for welfare and section 8 assistance while we are at it.

You take benefits from gov, you become essentially an “employee”, and as such there should be SOME standards

Finally, something will be done about this. Drug addiction is one of the main problems destructive to this country throughout every aspect of our lives..Families are destroyed, children are hurt, crime soars, drug lords are everywhere, prisons are full, welfare soars, poverty grows, vehicle accidents take lives as a result, suicides mount, school failure soars, ERs are full of addicts seeking drugs or in overdose, homelessness grows and much more. All that does not even touch the damage being done to us through addicted public servants, Hollywood, the media and those we rely on not to be high and without judgment. I say test public officials and the media first and if they are found to have drugs in their system, out they go. I have seen an Oxycontin addict up close and she was a PhD, a beautiful person who was good and nice before addiction. After addiction, she was cruel, narcissistic, aggressive, had wrecks, hurt others and never apologized. She had no judgment and felt that she owned the world. When she came down off a high, she was scary. Rehab twice hardly helped at all. This is a terrible scourge on this country and the drug trade is huge. Thank you, President Trump. Perhaps the threat of this is one of the reason the bad people hate you so much. They do not want to give up their sex, drugs and corruption.

Just asking for mandatory drug testing of firemen or cops will get you into trouble.

Retired people on social security should be tested too? Who pays the cost of the testing? The employer. That’s a lot of dough.

I’m waiting to celebrate until after he signs the bill, and it passes the gauntlet of lawsuits and activist judges and those who will ignore the law.

This kind of action doesn’t take any time or effort. Especially because Congress already passed the same thing. Why would you not want Trump to do anything and everything he can during one of his 20 hour days??

BTW, if he waited for the jobs to come around in full before he did anything else you would be pretty disappointed I would guess!!

I mean really..unlike Obama(and pretty much every other President I have seen) the man can walk and chew gum at the same time!!

“In fact, add drug testing for welfare and section 8 assistance while we are at it.”

I think you are right...The drug problem is demand and nothing will stop a person from doing drugs faster than a random drug test coming up positive and cutting off your monthlies.

Tough love, but it will save lives and save everybody money.

Random testing for government bureaucrats (not military) and mandatory monthly drug testing for elected government officials to include House and Senate.

If this is done correctly, it can cut into the problem of the downward spiral in many inner city environments. Drug test them; take benefits away. Next step, an entry level job with training AND regular drug testing.

Tough love....the noun is love. The Narcan approach (we forgive and save EVERYONE, no individual responsibilities for them) seems to have made the horrific drug overdose problem worse. I just hope lawyers don't get involved and make it impossible to make the necessary changes.
