Metro Police Officer Will Not be Charged in Deadly Alpine Bank Shooting

WARNING: Story contains graphic video of shooting

ROCKFORD - WARNING: This story contains graphic video of a shooting death. It was distributed to show that a security guard's actions in use of deadly force were justified. Viewer discretion is advised.

The Metro Security Officer who shot and killed an armed bank robber after the robber pointed a gun and fired at him will not be charged in the shooting.

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's office has determined the use of deadly force was justified given the life-threatening danger the bank robber presented.

34-year-old Laurence Turner entered the bank on North Mulford Road in the late afternoon of January 20th and fired a shot into the ceiling. Video shows him shooting once into the air, and that's when security officer Brian Harrison and Turner exchange gunfire before Turner then attempts to flee, collapsing from his wounds in the doorway. He died at the scene.

Turner is also suspected of other bank robberies in the area, two of which involved gunshots into the ceiling of the bank.

There should never have been even a remote possibility that the guard would be charged. imo.

Is he a police officer or a security officer? Cops knew that if they charged him it would become clear that they don’t want citizens protecting themselves. Unionized police can’t abide the idea of the public showing how inept the police are at keeping the peace and protecting us.

From a restricted source.

Bruscato said the security guard, Brian Harrison, a retired Winnebago County Sheriff's Department deputy, shot and killed the suspect, Laurence Turner, 34, of Rockford in self-defense and in defense of others.

Just be glad he was not a security monitor.

Very poorly written story and headline. It appears that the criminal was shot by a security guard, so why was the DA considering charges against a cop, since there is no police officer mentioned in the story? 40 years ago, you would have found better writing and editing in a high school paper.

The first thing the tellers do after its all over is grab their phones! Its as if the alarm button is insufficient to get the cops there.

Maybe they had to post to their FacePlant page";^)

Yeah, there was another source ( couldn't post it ), that correcty ID'd him as a security guard, who also happens to be a retired sheriff deputy. Good job by the guard though, one less armed robber.

Deceased perp.

Why does anyone use the words “charged” in reference to this? Do liberals hate the right of non-violent people to defend themselves so much that they are willing to arrest people who use their legitimate right to self-defense? YES!

Liberals want to take guns from non-violent people while leaving them in the hands of violent criminals.

The FBI closes over 98% of bank robberies. And the average haul is around $2,500 bucks. It’s just about the lowest percentage crime you can commit.

It’s the freaking onside kick of crime.

I’m looking forward for the trial of a local bank robbery from last summer here in central PA. They ID’d him from a camera at the quickie-mart where he stopped for smokes five minutes into his escape.

Bank robbers with a gun and a bag with aren’t the best and brightest, as a group.

Couldn't have said it better...DITTO! There was a time where accuracy was the be-all & end-all in journalism. Now it's about gathering eyeballs on-line and page linger time for the ads. As others have pointed out, other articles/sources have clearly stated the security guard is a retired sheriff's deputy. The would-be robber totally failed at victim selection and the rest of society is better off with him out of the gene pool.
