Two years after the star couple separated, a source told People magazine that they are giving things another try. They love each other, said another source, and they really, really love their kids, and those kids love their parents.
For many couples, though, this isnt enough. Though the divorce rate has decreased since the high point of Baby Boomer splits in the 1980s, its still almost 35 percent for couples who married in the 90s. And frankly, its only that low because more and more Americans dont bother to marry at all. (Cohabiting couples have an even higher rate of splitting up.)
There are surprisingly powerful forces in the modern world that push men and women to conclude that divorce is the best way to resolve differences in a marriage. Were surrounded by a culture that trivializes marriage and normalizes divorce. Not only is divorce seen as the first step to self-actualization in shows like HBOs Divorce or Bravos Untying the Knot, many husbands and wives also have the impression that it will be easy to find someone else. All of the dating apps fool people into thinking theres a pool of people just waiting for them to jump in.
Diane Medved, a clinical psychologist and author of the new book, Dont Divorce: Powerful Arguments for Saving and Revitalizing Your Marriage, warns about what she calls the divorce industry.

I guess Ben can keep hi Venture card.
Life is short.
There’s no reason to be miserable because of someone else’s view on marriage.
Ben’s not worth it.
Just love her dimples . . .
You are correct...ben is not worth it.
Affleck finally got sober. I’m betting that was her ‘all or nothing’ demand of him. Hope it sticks!
Being married to a drunk is NO fun. Been there. Done that. Never again.
Agreed. “Facing down the divorce industry” is admirable if you’re talking about a couple rough patches in the marriage, but when you have one spouse who serially returns to booze and womanizing after repeated attempts at reconciliation, I’m not sure that is to be celebrated. Its one thing to recognize that your spouse is human and makes mistakes — even big mistakes — that you can try to forgive and move on from. Its another thing to be a doormat for repeated bad behavior.
Agreed. Ping to Post #7. :)
“Theres no reason to be miserable because of someone elses view on marriage.”
What if that “someone else” is God?
P.S. I LOVE these types of posts - they give FReepers a chance to blow off a lot of steam, LOL!
No one should have to remain married to a bad person just because there are children. Try, yes. Try for a few years. But at some point, you need two people actually in the marriage.
And for this particular famous family, congrats. Hope they work it out.
Why would you marry someone who made you miserable in the first place?
I’m sure Ben had “presidential ambitions” before this fracas. Liberal, handsome politician.
Maybe he still does....and THAT’S the reason she’s not divorcing him.
I just love it when couples get divorced but say, “we’re still friends”...especially if they have kids. However, abuse, adultery, and addictions are the three reasons divorce makes sense, unless reforms take place.
Nice shoes! Sidis last forever.
I think he might. He’s also Hispanic as well, the liberals will love him for that.
