Theres nothing like a little violence to focus the mind. I am the Middlebury College professor who ended up with whiplash and a concussion for having the audacity to engage with the ideas of Charles Murray, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
Though he is someone with whom I disagree, I welcomed the opportunity to moderate a talk with him on campus on March 2 because several of my students asked me to do so. They know I am a Democrat, but the college courses I teach are nonpartisan. As I wrote on Facebook immediately after the incident, this was a chance to demonstrate publicly a commitment to a free and fair exchange of views in my classroom. But Dr. Murray was drowned out by students who never let him speak, and he and I were attacked and intimidated while trying to leave campus.
In the days after the violence, some have spun this story as one about whats wrong with elite colleges and universities, our coddled youth or intolerant liberalism. Those analyses are incomplete.
Political life and discourse in the United States is at a boiling point, and nowhere is the reaction to that more heightened than on college campuses. Throughout an ugly campaign and into his presidency, President Trump has demonized Muslims as terrorists and dehumanized many groups of marginalized people. He declared the free press an enemy of the people, replaced deliberation with tweeting, and seems bent on dismantling the separation of powers and 230 years of progress this country has made toward a more perfect union. Much of the free speech he has inspired or has refused to disavow is ugly, and has already had ugly real-world consequences. College students have seen this, and have taken note: Speech can become action.

This clown blames President Trump for her own brutal mugging by libtards.
Liberalism truly is a mental disorder.
A liberal once again demonstrating a complete lack of self awareness.
They live in delusion. I always wondered how the Jews of Germany could ignore the threats before their very faces as they mounted in the 30s. Well, here is how, apparently. Cognitive dissonance.
The author wrote - “some of my faculty colleagues had rendered judgment on Dr. Murrays work and character without ever having read anything he has written”
When liberals call Dr Murray and all Trump supporters “white nationalists” and racists without being challenged by their own leaders, what do they expect? - If a real racist was invited and spoke, we’d rightly see the same behavior from just about everyone in the community.
But liberals and their leaders simply don’t THINK anymore; they only FEEL. So no challenge comes.
Prediction: a Kent State-style death; then it either stops or becomes a series of bloody battles. I hope this stops on its own.
Trump’s fault!
Thomas Sowell on Middlebury:

One sentence in her article makes that clear.
All violence is a breakdown of communication.
No, Allison, not all violence is a breakdown of communication. Someone beat you up solely because they wanted you silenced. They wanted to impose their will on you. No amount of communication would have changed that. Until violence is met with greater violence or blatant threat of overwhelming force, these events will continue.
She is blaming rhetoric for inciting violence. First of all; they chose to be violent first. Regardless of reason, they chose violence. Second; it’s rhetoric they made up. They didn’t so the research into Dr. Murray and ginned up the rhetoric in their own little echo chamber until they talked themselves into believing violence was they only way. If conservatives become violent it will be in answer to the violence chosen by the progressives and then there will be peace.
She’s too willing to shift blame from the students to Trump. She basically says their violence is an understandable (though not excusable) reaction to the “climate” Trump has created. Funny how it’s almost exclusively leftists who are being provoked to violence by this supposed climate.
BUT she deserves some credit for calling out the contemptible SPLC for slandering Murray. She did this in the pages of the NYT, which is not something that happens every day.
So a raving mob of Marxist drones gives her whiplash and a concussion for daring to try to have a debate with a Never Trumper, but yet it’s somehow Trump’s fault.
If conservatives become violent it will be in answer to the violence chosen by the progressives and then there will be peace.
if conservatives become violent, suddenly law enforcement will swing into full action...
Good point. And if you think about it, terrorism is the use of violence as a form of communication.
She should try to imagine the day that Conservatives start playing by those same rules and start smashing those who provoke them with leftist speech.
A general rule of thumb is that, whatever rules you break to attack others, they will eventually break as well to defend themselves.
She tolerates intolerance and supports those that would shut down speech as free speech.
She has to be a professor to miss IRONY this freakin' big.
>>This clown blames President Trump for her own brutal mugging by libtards.<<
Back to the “It’s Bush’s fault” line. Only thing is President Trump fights back.
“...but the college courses I teach are nonpartisan.”
Excuse me why I throw the BS flag. This idiot wouldn’t know non-partisanship if if bit him on the behind.
She had dain bramage before the concussion, but it made things even worse.
You read the whole thing. I disagree with what I see at Middlebury today. The college is not now a good place to send your child (which I did many years ago). Having said that, I suggest that you try reading all of this:
