Democrats Warn of Shutdown Showdown Over Trump’s Mexican Border Wall

Senate Democrats are warning Republicans of a shutdown showdown if President Donald Trump insists on including funding for a wall along the Mexican border in April’s government funding bill.

“We believe it would be inappropriate to insist on the inclusion of such funding in a must-pass appropriations bill that is needed for the Republican majority in control of the Congress to avert a government shutdown so early in President Trump’s Administration,” the Senate Democratic leadership team, along with Appropriations ranking Democrat Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, wrote in a letter to be circulated Monday.

The letter was directed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Appropriations Chairman Thad Cochran, R-Miss., but the clear audience was the Trump administration and the new president himself.

“Democrats are going to shut the government down.”

Which will be blamed on Trump and the Republicans rather than the Democrats.
The Media has become a Domestic Enemy.

I’m fine with shutting it down. The beast will only die if it is starved.

Democrats won’t shut it down. They can’t afford for their voters to know they can live without it. Definitely be short term pain, but Churches and local charities would step up keep people fed. Might do us all good to rediscover what is really important; and it ain’t Schuckie Choomer..

“If we don’t insist on this out of the gate it ain’t never gonna happen.”

Absolutely not true. I could see Trump saying, sometime in the future, “Didn’t see it happen, did you? Let me explain how Mexico has already paid for the wall.”

I don’t think the libs know what ‘not being in charge’ means....

I don’t think Mitch McConnell knows what ‘being in charge’ means....

Pass it in the UBER-Omnibus bill, or pass it line item at a time. Either way,

The minority demands NOTHING !

Yup. The cost of the wall is insignificant. The illegals and drugs are costing us a fortune!

“It was already funded years ago. This is all for show.”

That is what I was thinking. The legislation has already been passed. What it will need is more funding.

Notice the Dems have no problem of forcing a government shutdown, but the Reps are scared to death to be associated with one. Hence, we never had a budget passed during the entire 8 years of Obama. Just omnibus bills that gave Obama everything he wanted.

OK so do what a democrat would do and hide the funding somewhere else in the budget

Defense = national security perhaps

Oh for God’s sake

Get the wall started built and Mexico will essentially pay it by some kind of fees or taxes

Or just by not sending people her into our welfare, schools and free medical system!

Don’t hold up physical border security over a one issue absolutism statement that can be carried out in many different ways, not just upfront

“You, friend, have slipped a cog: we build the wall ASAP and worry about reimbursement later. The wall is the reason we voted in a whole new leadership.”

Exactly! There are a dozen ways to “get Mexico” to pay for the wall. None of this theater should deter Trump from actually getting the wall constructed. Just the mere completion of the wall, irrespective of reimbursement would save this country the cost of it just in reduced crime, medical care, education, etc.

That’s because RATs come equipped with spines whereas RINOs do not!

If the Rats won’t fund it, then Trump should send what ever military is required to the border to prevent illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Plus he could order stricter screening at border crossings which would completely shut down movement.

I guess they don’t recall what happened when the Soviets walked out of the UN in the 50s. Republicans can get a lot of work done if Democrats are not around. If they just vote no on everything, that is their right. If they want to debate for weeks, they need to be shut down. Even turtles need balls if they want to survive.
