The United States has started to deploy attack drones to South Korea, a U.S. military spokesman said on Monday, days after it began to deploy an advanced anti-missile system to counter "continued provocative actions" by isolated North Korea.
The drones, Gray Eagle Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) coming to South Korea are part of a broader plan to deploy a company of the attack drones with every division in the U.S. Army, the spokesman said.
"The UAS adds significant intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capability to U.S. Forces Korea and our ROK partners," United States Forces Korea spokesman Christopher Bush said in a statement.
He did not say exactly when the drones would arrive in South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea (ROK).
North Korea has conducted two nuclear tests and a string of missile tests since the beginning of last year, despite the imposition of new U.N. sanctions.
Last week, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said Washington was re-evaluating its North Korea strategy and "all options are on the table."
The Gray Eagle is a remotely controlled attack drone made by U.S.-based General Atomics. They will be stationed at Kunsan Air Base, 180 km (112 miles) south of Seoul, Bush said, and would be permanently based in South Korea.
On March 7, the United States deployed the "first elements" of the controversial Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system to South Korea, despite angry opposition from China.
Once fully deployed in South Korea, a THAAD battery could theoretically use its radar to see and monitor activity beyond North Korea, deep into Chinese territory. Russia also worries the deployment could compromise its security, and said it would lead to a stalemate on the Korean peninsula.

The worst thing we could do is put troops on the ground in N. Korea, we would have another Vietnam on our hands in my opinion. Carpet bomb the country, target nuclear facilities and if necessary sent the South Korean army in.
Probably an easier solution would be to kill Kim and all his generals in one strike. The citizenry will take care of the local apparachniks after that and then China and South Korea could figure out what to do next.
We are not going to invade North Korea. That would be stupid. The whole country is a somewhat rusty and underfed but armed camp.
But there is a risk of North Korea attacking Southward.

According to that statement they don’t sound like attack drones.
They fire HELLFIRE missiles and have been very much engaged in the CENTCOM AOR.
Uh oh. Looks like President Trump is trying to start WW3. /sarc
You may have the perfect solution. Look at what happened when we sought a regime change in the middle east though. That didn’t work out so well under Bush 2, then the muslim in charge turned it into a complete fiasco.
We already have troops on the ground in Korea since the treaty.
That’s correct. In S. Korea. My comment was against troops on the ground in N. Korea only.
I would prefer creating the Island of South Korea, sending all of North Korea straight to Hades
Some brave South Korean has to take Kim down.
No one has said boo about putting troops in North Korea which is why your post was questioned.
Let Japan, South Korea and the rest of the allies there do the ground work. We can supply them, not fight for them.

Great, but the title is misleading considering the statement in the article.
Could lead to a stalemate in the peninsula ? Do the Russians think unification is possible ? That fat boy has to start singing first.
They’re journalists. How would they know?
Some FReepers do not believe it, but Russia seeks to reestablish world order and knock the USA down a few notches. For about ten years now, anytime Putin could push back or get others to harm US interests, he has. Those who only consider US interests from a partisan position may miss the this fact. And, some of them, lash out at anyone speaking ill of their Adonis.
