U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hailing a marked change in immigration trends a 40-percent decline in illegal border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border between January and February; and a 55-percent decline in inadmissibles, who present themselves at Southwest ports of entry but are turned away. [ ]
In February, a total of 18,762 individuals were apprehended between ports of entry on the Southwest Border, compared with 31,578 in January (a 40.58-percent drop) and 43,255 in December, CBP said.
Also in February, a total of 4,808 people presented themselves at ports of entry on the Southwest Border and were deemed inadmissible, compared with 10,899 in January (a 55.88 percent drop) and 15,176 in December.
CBP said the recent drop in illegal border crossings is encouraging because it means fewer people are putting themselves and their families at risk of exploitation, assault and injury by human traffickers and the physical dangers of the treacherous journey north.

I have a question? If there were 18,000 illegal border crossings, were they all caught and deported? If they were not caught, then how does anyone know what the number of illegal crossings were? And one last question? If someone does know the number of illegal crossings are they being sought for deportation? Put 18,000 people in your town square and see how many that actually is.
“I wish we could add a border canal to that”
God knew of your prayer, and gave us the Rio Grande.
Thanks, no argument from me to your comment. Question is, if the enforcement is up (as we are being told), and the catch is down, how does that translate into the actual border crossing attempts decreasing?
I’d like to see a navigable water route parallel, all the way to San Diego.
Policies and enforcement will do a lot (just as they do in most other countries around the world).
It took Obama quite some time to whip up the immigration flows that we had as recently as January. On top of all the subsidies (food stamps, medical, education for the kids, etc.), Obama had big contracts for logistic support for illegals. He even used ICE as taxi service to shuttle them to nearby bus stations.
Obama also conducted a deliberate and sustained messaging campaign in Latin America to encourage immigrants - here is how you get benefits, its safe to send your kids ahead we will take good care of them, this is all you have say, look we make fools of ICE - they are nothing to fear, etc. Trump’s counter message seems to have been effectively communicated much more quickly and efficiently.
If benefits get cut, and jobs are lost due to policy, we will get rid of more illegals than even a 100 meter water obstacle would stop. That is where we get the best bang for the buck (we even save money by cutting off benefits).
Way to GO!!!
Its a start
It would seen to indicate a lessening of crossings.
...fingers crossed.

**************************
That is hugely different than how many actual crossing there were like the headline says.
The Border Patrol thinks they get about 10% of actual crossings.
180,000 likely got in.
IIUC, those stats only cover the ones they catch...
Care less about how many less are coming in...
How many are going BACK!? *THEN* I know we’re on the right track.
