Alexandria (United States) (AFP) - What does a day without women look like? The city of Alexandria, Virginia, just outside the US capital, found out on Wednesday as an avalanche of teacher requests for time off to mark International Women's Day forced it to close down its entire public school district.
Alexandria's unprecedented decision -- announced two days ahead of time to give parents time to plan for the disruption -- appeared to be broadly well received in the progressive northern Virginia city.

The kids will probably learn more on their day off than they would have if they’d gone to school.
I suspect these teachers were nearly forced to participate by their union. If you didn’t, look out!
This kids will likely have to make up the day.
Must be union teachers. No way that would fly here in Texas ... except maybe in Houston or Austin. ;-)
A Day Without Nagging
It must have been terrible in Alexandria today. All those spoiled brats running around with nothing to do. And then there were also the children ...

I am a 64 year old white woman free white and over 21. If I wanted to make as much as a man in this lifetime believe me I could have. If I want to be a CEO of a company nobody’s glass ceiling would have stopped me. .. I got as far in this world as I wanted to get-that is my choice! I am not a victim. I am a independent working woman and I make my own decisions on how far I’m going to go in my life. Thank you, I don’t need my government to help me get along I will do just fine on my own thank you.
If I were still an assistant chief of pharmacy (retired now) I would keep a list of all that called in sick. When it comes time for promotion I would be inclined to not select any from that list unless I was damn sure they were sick. If they want off use vacation time or show up and work!!!!
they should be docked a day’s pay, and the taxpayers should receive 1/180 of their property tax back as a refund.

Every one of these teachers are communists or useful idiots. And they are teaching our kids.

Instead of a “snow day”, they’re getting a “snowflake day” from their “teachers”.
I was in business for myself for umpteen years and can honestly say that women ALWAYS took off more than men. It was always something, the kids, the body parts, the family, the dog, the cat, the this, the that.
And then they wonder why they aren’t paid as much as men. Because they don’t work as many hours as men. PERIOD!
Maybe all us guys should pick a day to sit home and drink beer or march in the streets. The country will come to a stand-still. WHO’S WITH ME???!!!
Good for at least one thing since fed funds are per student attending, the fed budget didn’t take as big a hit. The idiots taking a paid day off using sick or vacay time had the time coming anyway. Probably a net gain there somewhere.
This is insanity.
On the plus side ... traffic accidents are at a minimum today.
