Posting constant status updates on Facebook may be annoying for others, but sharing your life on the worlds most popular social network could also be a sign of loneliness.
People who spent the most time on social media had twice the odds of having greater perceived social isolation, a study of more than 1,700 people published Monday in the academic American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
Social isolation, a state in which an individual lacks a sense of social belonging, true engagement with others, and fulfilling relationships, is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, the researchers said. For example, social isolation has been compared to obesity in terms of potential association with negative health effects.
Its not the first time scientific research has linked sadness and social media.
More than 79 percent of the users who describe themselves as lonely disclosed personal information, such as their favorite books and movies, compared with less than 65 percent of other users, according to a 2014 study published by researchers at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, Australia, which will appear in the July issue of the journal, Computers in Human Behavior. The study analyzed Facebook postings of more than 600 women half of them described themselves as lonely.

Facebook polls and statistics? Reason #34598475 to stay away from Facebook.
No, it isn’t.
I don’t use Facebook, and I am basically anti-Facebook, I but know some very good folks who do use it, update their page constantly, and I wouldn’t characterize them as sad sacks ever.
I do know one person, who is a chronic Facebook user, and is definitely a sad sack in that she uses Facebook as a social life substitute and thinks that Facebook friends are better than actual friends.
So it really boils down to the individual.
“sharing your life on the worlds most popular social network could also be a sign of loneliness.”
Exactly. Just like those losers who use a smartphone during live shows.
Except for marketing purposes for people who want to “subscribe” to a product or artist or writer— farce buch is a freaking waste of time with constant online commentary from true losers, and esp. now with losers with an idiotic agenda of lib-whacko land. Drudge’s post today on the facebook fake pages that say they are him— implies it’s the deep state- wouldn’t doubt it.
Add to that another 1.5 billion reasons, each user.
Lots of freepers over there some of the most top notch people I know and I am Friends with our esteemed Site owner and true patriot sad sack my ass
I have to admit, I had a FB account for 7 years, and I never once undressed in public. I mainly just used it to post daily Bible verses, news articles from FR, and links whenever I occasionally updated my blog.
Eleanor Rigby’s method of calling for a FLASH PARTY ?
Or, a Flash Party at the local 7-11 for freebies in South Chicago/Baltimore etc etc ..
Facebook is a tool with almost 2 Billion accounts.
I have an account, I post very little. My wife has an account, she posts more often, but generally comments on other people’s posts. She keeps the personal details to a minimum.
Some people use it to advocate their opinions, others to brag. Some use it to record and boast about their crimes (which is convenient for police).
Still others share everything in their lives in a pursuit external approval.
Attempting to draw generalizations about Facebook users from such a small sample is a fool’s errand.
All those sad sacks have pushed the stock price to $137 per share. I find it incredible.
I would never join up.
To many crazies want me dead.
I use Facebook. But I use it for news functions such as getting updates on my favorite sports teams, specific conservative pages, groups like the Civil War Trust and the History Channel, etc. That’s what I get most out of Facebook.
I post, on average, once a week. My posts are pretty much innocous and apolitical - usually. I like to do check-ins, updating when I’ve visited a certain city or place but I’m not one of those types to post how I’m currently feeling.
I’ve never viewed it as a challenge to get as many Friends as I can. I have 17. They are people I knew from the past that I thought highly of and people in the current that I still think highly of.
I like on people on facebook who talk so much about their current boyfriend or girlfriend and what special things they did together; but often when there is a breakup, they give no details. We need closure too, since they thought that I wanted to know about all the birthday gifts, christmas gifts, trips that they gave to each other.
I have a fake fb account to post on certain websites.
Been wondering if i should use it to try contact old GF’s or potential old GF’s.
Say hi and all that.
Not in a rush though....
I use it mainly to keep up with neuroscience and veterans, plus watch my grandnieces and nephews grow since we’re spread out all over the country. I only post pictures of plants, bugs and birds on my own page or share something funny. Haven’t been on in a couple of days though.
