After months of planning and deliberations, the 75th Ranger Regiment has been deployed to Syria to participate in the war against ISIS as the coalition closes in on the so-called caliphates capital city of Raqqa. Yesterday, the first images emerged of Stryker armored vehicles on their way to Manbij. This comes weeks after Rangers deployed to theater with their Strykers and elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment had been passing through Kurdistan.
By looking at the call sign tag on the back of the Stryker, it is evident that this is 3rd Ranger Battalion out of Fort Benning, Georgia,

The Russians sure get a lot of credit for attacking ISIS when in fact they’re predominately not attacking ISIS. They’re cynically leaving ISIS to assure they’re the only alternative to Assad to make sure Assad’s survival is the only viable one. Anyone who follows whom Russia bombs will see it’s not often ISIS. But you got to give Putin credit, like the communist he’s been most of his life, he’s run an excellent MISO program and fooled a lot of people.
Just another day of insanity in the CIA/SOF led “war” against those Muslim terrorists they support, arm, fund, and train.
The “war” that’s never won and continues year after year after year.
At some point people have to ask themselves is the world’s only superpower grossly incompetent or is it all bullshit?
This phony war could be over in a week if it were real, but it isn’t, so it’s not.
This also begs the question: Why does the US launch covert wars in a half dozen MENA countries while it simultaneously imports thousands of jihadis to the “homeland?”
Wakey, wakey, smell the bakey...Special Farces on the move gives many wood, but step back and ask some basic questions like the above, and what constitutes this phony “war’s” end?
How’s that “no naton building” Bush-Iraq war going? We’re still there and so is Special Farces, and in fact they’re increasing their numbers there and in other countries.
You must have missed the parts of the campaign where Trump promised to destroy ISIS. This plan was being worked prior to his taking office. After the election, he could have said, “No, I’m not going to destroy ISIS. That’s not my policy. That’s a neo-con one. I’m going to partner with Putin and wait until he finally starts to attack ISIS.” Or he could go after ISIS at their center of gravity destroying their image in the Muslim world as invincible force. Fortunately, he and the incoming military leadership, like SECDEF Mattis, strengthened the plan and are going in for the kill. People can whine, worry, and wet the bed all they want as if that’s a superior way to destroy an enemy. But when this ends in a few months ISIS will be destroyed as a Calipahate and a organization that owns ground. And POTUS will have kept a promise.
Why is Assad’s survival any of our business?
This scenario keeps replaying over there, and many of us are tired of it. The neocons and HRC were the ones who wanted to be rid of Assad. Trump did not campaign on that, nor on Russia bashing - the opposite actually.

“You must have missed the parts of the campaign where Trump promised to destroy ISIS.”
Nope, I didn’t. I also recall him saying that HRC/Obama created ISIS...ie we covertly funded and armed them and did nothing to stop their sales of oil. Stop covertly funding and arming them. Let the Syrians and Russians (who are invited there) take care of them. Let Syrians have their sovereignty and keep their refugees.
You can have him as someone you believe must survive; he is their socialist sovereign by right of birth. He did assist al Qaeda in make it's way to fight Americans in Iraq for many years, which makes him beyond the redemption of Putin's propaganda for me. I don't believe his survival will last without Putin's gun thugs. When ISIS center of gravity is destroyed, and Assad keeps dropping barrel bombs on market places, you can claim he's killing ISIS, like so many here do.
Pretty cool.
The Iranian militia is controlling the battle for Mosul, its Shite vs Sunni( Isis).
The 75th Ranger regiment will be in the middle of this And Irans Iranian militia proxies will likley turn on our troops, and take Mosul to expand Iranian influence through Iraq, Syria and right into the Mediterranean area.
The specific Iranian militias involved have killed American soldiers before.
If we are against the Sunni, we will never have any influence for peace making in the local area of Mosul, the area is populated by the Sunni majority.
US Army conflict with these Iranian militias is almost inevitable. We should be prepared to beat the tar out of them.
“Mosul is all but wrapped up. ISIS is exfiltrating, many are going to Raqqa for a last stand”
You seem to understand what is going on. Why oh why are these objectives never surrounded and cut off so that no one can flee? Civilians, okay, but each person leaving is on foot through check points so that no “good” guys die by suicide stuff. Anybody / vehicles not leaving via checkpoints are eliminated. No questions asked. Why did they attack Mosul from 3 “sides” leaving an escape route for ISIS back to Raqua.
“or is it all bullshit?”
What is bullshit is America having to constantly defend itself from these jihadist morons that have nothing more to believe in than the sanctity of Mohammed. Too many of them want to keep fighting the world like they did 1,000 years ago.
They couldn’t do it then and they damn sure can’t do it now with a billion+ Chinese eating pork subgum.
Their’s is a death cult, no less and they think they individually succeed by taking as many “Crusaders” with them.
Waddayagonna do? What are our options? They are coming to America, knocking down our buildings and killing our families.
We have to fight, hard and dirty. Maybe Islam will grow up some day and moderate elements will do a better job of tamping down the jihadists. That won’t happen until a lot more of them are dead.
Islam needs a reformation, one that says killing each other is always wrong. The jihadists mostly kill other Muslims. Muslim leaders can’t even slow that down.
Assad’s survival is probably what most Syrians want.
I suspect most Trump supporters do not want more of the Bush/Obama/HRC/neocon ME foreign policy - the one that nurtured ISIS. I could be wrong.
The Russians and Assad simply are not going after ISIS. Their focus is Assad’s survival. ISIS is not their last concern, not their first. ISIS provides the rationale that makes Assad agreeable for realpolitik arrangement. The destruction of ISIS undermines the claim that Assad is the only alternative. Assad is probably more worried about ISIS losing Raqqa than ISIS is.
I’m afraid you’re having trouble distinguishing policies from partisanship and campaigning rhetoric. Killing ISIS doesn’t nurture them. It ends their lives and ends their organization. I’m pretty sure we can all get on board with that if we can drop the partisan divisive mythology.
Many drive out at night, we can’t Identify Friend or Foe, and our ROE doesn’t allow interdiction in that case.
The roads have many refugees. We need time for noncombatants to clear to safe areas and get out of Raqqa.
Raqqa will be their last stand and shaping that battle is complicated and frustrating.
Funding them and arming them nurtures them. Without Western+Saudi funding, weapons and oil sales, ISIS/white helmets/FSA/etc/etc is done.
Support by elements in this forum of the McCain/Graham/HRC/neocon program for Syria is noted, but it is NOT the Trump program. It has been an abject failure in every regard up until now, but hey, maybe this time it will work!!
I agree about the oil sales. We have been paying for both sides of the fight.
“maybe this time it will work!!”
I have a lot of faith in General Mattis.
* Godspeed Rangers!
