Faced with the threat that Asian carp could enter the Great Lakes, Michigan is turning to the public for new ideas and plans to offer a prize to whoever comes up with a way to stop the voracious fish.
Michigan's global search challenge comes after the U.S. government and others have spent hundreds of millions searching for a solution to stop the carp from entering the world's largest freshwater system. If they aren't stopped, officials fear the aggressive fish will crowd out prize native fish and hamper recreational boating in large sections of the lakes...

I thought diversity was a strength? Why exclude migrant fish. Sounds racist.
This is racist!
Gefilte fish. Let them swim in the bathtub for a couple of days to clean out.
LOL
Simple. Eat the current critters and replace government with these pests. I see it as a win win. At least the minority leader of the house... the new mrs carp face will be able to move her brow.
Someone has to like them, they escaped from a commercial fish farm in a flood.
At first I thought it said there was going to be a prize fight between two carp
This is sort of like the history of Africanized Bees.
They were purposely bred in Brazil in the 1950’s and some escaped. They have been heading northbound ever since.
Every warm season, I hear about a few Killer Bee horror stories. What is these bees could learn to eat these fish?
Bees can be very patient, waiting for their prey to surface for a quick gulp of air.
Import Asian immigrants to over fish them.
Where do I pick up my money?
They’re basically the ornamental koi fish gone wild. They’re goldfish on steroids. But they’re also aggressive and prolific.

As I suspect the carp will be eaten- I do not recall if salmon will feed on carp fry

Sorry, but all suggestions become property of the original poster (me).
clicked submit without finishing thought- nature will provide balance, may be painful for short term tourist industry and fish populations
This IS the BEST POST EVER!!!!
Fromwhat I've been told, they are filter feeders, feeding off of plankton-like organisms and minute vegetation.
I've tried it, it wasn't bad. Comparable to tilapia in a way...
Not that I like tilapia all that much, but then again I spent the greater part of my adult life as a commercial fisherman and so used to be spoiled, being able to sample some of the best, nice and fresh.
I've read that for more than a couple of years now,Asian carp dna has been detected, but I hadn't heard it verified that the whole fish (of any of the four types of Asian carp) had been caught.
The way I've seen it explained was that the carp had been introduced into the fish farms to check/control growth of algae.
Yellow perch and smallmouth bass absolutely love zebra mussels. Their populations have exploded, at the expense of the mussel population. It was also discovered that the mussels will not anchor to anything treated with a copper-nickel alloy. The power and water treatment industries have adjusted accordingly and damage from the mussels implanting in pipes and water intakes has largely stopped. Also, as they are filter feeders they have discovered that the zebra mussels in lake Erie have contributed signifigantly to ridding it of pollution. In the lake since the mussels arrived water clarity has gone from 6 inches to 3 feet.

You might have stumbled on the solution here! If we could only get the carp to fight each other...
My thought wasn’t finished either. That’s why I sent you #37. Nature has found a way to deal with the mussel, It will find a way to deal with the carp too.

Thanks for information - I stopped following the Zebra mussel infestation when MSM started the sky is falling scenarios.
I will probably get sick of the Asian carp as well when the sky is falling scenarios start up
