[Ben Sasse] My Statement on Wiretapping
Twitter ^ | 1:20 PM 4 Mar 2017 | Ben Sasse

Posted on 03/04/2017 5:44:17 PM PST by AndyJackson

The President today made some very serious allegations, and the informed citizens that a republic requires deserve more information. If there were wiretaps of then-candidate Trump's organization or campaign, then it was either with FISA court authorization or without such authorization. If without, the President [Sasse is talking about Trump here, not his snideness Obama] should explain what sort of wiretap it was and how the knows this. It is possible that he was illegally tapped. On the other hand, if it was with a legal FISA Court order, then an application for surveillance exists that the Court found credible. The President should ask that this full application regarding surveillance of foreign operatives or operations be made available, ideally to the full public, and at a bare minimum to the U.S. Senate.

We are in the midst of a civilization-warping crisis of public trust, and the President's allegations today demand the thorough and dispassionate attention of serious patriots. A quest for the full truth, rather than knee-jerk partisanship, must be our guide if we are going to rebuild civic trust and health.

Stenburg ran in 1996 too, and lost BADLY to Hagel in the primary. Hagel was a worldbeater in 96 I guess.

I didn’t even know that.

It’s odd. Stenberg does stellar running state races (Treasurer, Atty Gen), but seems to go bust on Senate races.

Sasse is nothing more than Kristol’s puppet. If Sasse speaks, Kristol is telling him what to say.

Exactly. Trump did this to put the news out ... because MSM won’t do it.

Then why did you answer my question that way? What else could be implied from your answer?

ladies should not “talk like that”.

Oh I am a part-time resident of way-West Texas. I have heard some Texas ladies being rather rough on jerks who totally deserve it.

That gets directly to the people without the hyenas chiming in

I think it is more like he is leaving a smoking carcass before the hyenas even get a chance.

You: They seem to be pushing the idea that any warrant issued by a FISA court is automatically legal and legitimate. Is that true? I have my doubts but I don’t know.

Me: Not if they lied to the court. How else would they get cause to tap Trump when he was never in contact with Russia and the whole thing was made up?

You: IOWs the FISA judges themselves are beyond reproach. They are perfect and infallible human beings.

Me: I didn’t say or imply that.

You: Then why did you answer my question that way? What else could be implied from your answer?

You initial comment stated a concern about the notion that any warrant issued by a FISA court is legal. I responded by telling you that a warrant issued based on false testimony is not legit. You must have failed to grasp my meanig, and imputed some kind of support for the FISA judges in my comment, how you did so I have no idea.

I hope that answers your question.

You may want to read up on the issuance of warrants in general and in the FISA court. Warrants are issued upon application by a law enforcement official, and must be based on an affidavit under oath showing facts sufficient to believe that cause exists to conduct the search or seizure requested. If facts don't exist, the judge should not issue the warrant. If they do issue the warrant on insufficient facts, a later appellate court can throw out the evidence obtained. If facts don't exist, the other thing that might happen is that law enforcement makes up facts sufficient for a warrant. In such case, the evidence is also thrown out and the perjurer is guilty of a crime. Judges have a lot of discretion on warrants in general, and in the FISA court, there is very little oversight, so that is a danger to our freedom that should be reviewed.

Any questions? Please feel free to ask.

The implication is right there. Asking you anything further would be a waste of time.

Apologies to TigerClaw, I replied to him on a thread immediately before and thought it was the same thread. As to you, you might want to look in the mirror, and while you are at it, take a remedial reading course.

No worries. Lot of Tigers out there!

I can assure you I have “alters” on this board. Can barely keep up with this one profile.

FISA court judges are as corrupt and ineffective as their 99.92% warrant approval rate suggests. However, it nevertheless is true that Holder was known for perjuring himself in warrant applications, and the FISA judge probably coached the affiants telling them what facts to leave out of the application to allow it to slither through.
