A majority of Quebecers oppose the idea of welcoming more immigrants to Canada, a new survey suggests.
A poll conducted by SOM for Cogeco Nouvelles and published Wednesday suggests that 55 per of respondents think Canada shouldnt accept more immigrants in the wake of anti-immigration measures announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, while 36 per cent are in favour of welcoming more immigrants and nine per cent are undecided.
The survey also found that 75 per cent of the 1,010 respondents polled online are in favour of tightening surveillance on Canadas borders to prevent the arrival of illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, the survey also suggests that only 36 per cent of respondents favour a decision by city council to designate Montreal a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants while 41 per cent oppose the idea. Nearly one in four respondents 23 per cent were undecided on the issue. But the survey, conducted between Feb. 24-27, found that the younger and more educated of the respondents favoured the concept of a sanctuary city, which would allow immigrants with no official status to receive full access to public services offered by Montreal.
The polls margin of error is 3.4 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

Faire d'un Quebecoise grandeur encore?
Quebec City is on my list of places to visit.
Are they Islamophobes or just generally racists?
It’s a great city to visit. Even though it is 95% French-speaking, it feels much more welcoming than Montreal (or any of the other “biggest” cities).
Bur they’re frogs!
I wish I’d known enough to make it to Quebec City when I visited Montreal various times.
I actually did not find Montreal unwelcoming in any way.
Our little brother nation, who we have insulated from the angst of the world for several centuries, allowing them to play about carefree, is now having to deal with adult problems on their own. Hopefully they will keep in mind their big brother’s security is as important as their own.
Before the 60’s revolution, Quebec was probably the most conservative.
I know Toronto and Vancouver have the strongest globalist, pro-refugee, pro-illegal stance these days.
Wonderful place to visit, friendly people, great food.
Can’t blame them at all for blocking American Democrats from streaming accross the border.
so Liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s Papineau riding in Montreal should stop electing him
That is a part of Montreal that is globalist and socialist though. It’s like 20% Islamic in that riding too.

Well it’s Flaming Liberal there
Sorry, Hollywood Never Trumpers, even Quebec doesn’t want you.
Try Tehran.
I was wondering if they consider English-speakers to be illegal immigrants?
“A majority of Quebecers oppose the idea of welcoming more immigrants to Canada,”
They were probably thinking of Americans.
Quebec is 80% Francophone and people want to preserve the French language and culture.
Few people in the province welcome a situation where immigrants pick English over French.
And French is the sole official language.
I was wondering if they consider English-speakers to be illegal immigrants?
______________
actually they are pretty militant against English.
Can you think of another place where the rest of the country speaks one language and this province speaks only another, only about 30% of the population speaks English. They worked hard to remain ignorant and provincial
