Some congressional Republicans were quick to agree Thursday with Democrats calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election, following leaks and media reports that Sessions met with Moscows ambassador twice last year.
During a town hall with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on CNN Wednesday evening, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said that if Sessions had spoken with the Russian ambassador, then for sure you need a special prosecutor.
Graham did later call demands for Sessions' resignation "crazy" in a series of Thursday tweets, but added "Sessions needs to explain his contacts with the Russian ambassador during his service as a Senator - thats appropriate."
"AG Sessions should clarify his testimony and recuse himself," House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) tweeted early on Thursday.
"I think, the trust of the American people, you recuse yourself in these situations," House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Thursday morning.
McCarthy, in a later appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" backtracked and said he wasn't calling on Sessions to recuse himself.
"I'm not calling on [Sessions] to recuse himself," McCarthy said. "It's amazing how people spin things so quickly."
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) joined in during an appearance on NPR on Thursday morning. "It is potentially the case that there is going to be Justice Department recommendations or referrals based on anything regarding the campaign, he said. "Depending on what more we learn about these meetings, it could very well be that the attorney general, in the interest of fairness and in his best interest, should potentially ask someone else to step in and play that role."
During a CNN town hall on Wednesday night, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sessions couldn't be trusted to investigate..

I’m still waiting for news of all those arrests of senior people close to Hillary Clinton in the “Weinergate” charade last year. Wasn’t Napolitano the jerk who was on Fox News running a story like that from his “inside sources” in the NYPD?
Kushner and Flynn are two Democrats, so who gives a sh!t what happens to them? I wouldn't have trusted either one of them to clean my toilets.
By Jeff Sessions recusing himself the are feeding the sharks.
They will now attack more because they know their lies work.
I never said that.
Winning the election didn't get any of those @ssholes off Donald Trump's back -- did it?
In removing himself, Sessions put acting Deputy Attorney General Dana Boente in charge leading the investigation. Boente was nominated by former President Barack Obama. This morning Chuck said if Sessions does not resign he must recuse and give the investigation to Boente. No the Minority does not have the authority but he knew he it would fall to Boente if he could pressure Sessions.
But what do I know as you pointed out I am just a moron.
I agree.
When you feed the Sharks like Sessions did today by recusing.
The Leftist and Globalist realize is all they have to do is lie and push to get rid of you. It works!
They successfully did it with Gen Flynn and they will do the same with Sessions.
You never feed the sharks because it only ENCOURAGES them to ATTACK and LIE more.
Sure is getting tiresome.
Obama/Soros and their underlings/handlers are orchestrating a mutiny of the government and need to be dealt with accordingly.
What investigation? There is none going on, as far as I know.
Boente may have been nominated by Obama, but Obama also changed the Justice Department protocols so that Boente would not be a successor to the U.S. Attorney General in matters like this. It was Trump who signed the executive order reversing Obama's move.
P.S. -- Boente is a political appointee, so Trump can fire him tomorrow if he wants to.
Oh, I'm sorry ...
You mean the NY Times, CNN, and the lunatics now leading the Democrat Party would have stopped attacking and lying if Sessions hadn't recused himself?
I appreciate that.
Btw, I just saw this tweet from Coulter:
‘Democrats asking Sessions to resign for the good of the country. The country they’re talking about is Mexico.”
if there is no DOJ investigation, the recusal is moot
Great quote by Coulter.
Stepping and fetching for the LOSERS again.
It ENABLES and ENCOURAGES them to keep attacking instead of giving up and realizing it’s not going to work.
Remember they tried to do the same to President Trump, but he stood up to them and they eventually backed down.
You don’t cave.... Caving is not a winning strategy it only encourages the enemy.
Trump’s cred allows you to wipe you subservient slate clean. Don’t destroy the goodwill. Here’s a novel thought. Evolve up. Get a spine republicana coelenterata. Beat your opponents and the other slimy creatures in your collective. Show no weakness or mercy. Are there any in The Gang of 535 worthy? SWAMP creatures ALERT!
“It was Trump who signed the executive order reversing Obama’s move.”
Somehow I don’t think Trump had this scenario in mind when he did that. I believe Sessions said Boente will head any campaign related investigations. Yes Trump can fire him tomorrow but what would happen if Trump fires the person investigating any possible interference in his own election?
“...so sloppy”?
Really?
Have YOU ever had been “interrogated” — for hours — by hostile moral dwarfs without giving a single freaking answer to their “gotcha” questions that might be selectively “misunderstood”?
“...heads should be rolling...”?
Really?
This is how EVIL wins. Didn’t Saul Alinsky (Hillary’s mentor) say that “perfection” is a weapon to be be used against people who are merely “good”?
IMHO, it is time for AG Sessions to look into Russian “help” provided to Hillary’s campaign...
I would like to know how much of Soros’ “campaign contributions” to Hillary and other Democrats came from Russian “sources”.
And the Red Chinese contributions to Hillary (laundered, of course) should be exposed.
+1
Ann Coulter can be so funny—and make good points at the same time.
