JACKSON, Miss. -- A woman who identified herself as a DREAMer was arrested after speaking at an immigration press conference in Jackson, Mississippi, CBS affiliate WJTV reports.
The arrest came amid a string of immigration raids and a lack of clarity about the scope of the Trump administrations plans for deportations.
Daniela Vargas was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to attorneys Ramiro Orozco and Abby Peterson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
At the press conference, members of the metro areas Latino community spoke about recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and President Trumps first speech to a joint session of Congress. Abby Peterson, an attorney for Vargas, said that Vargas spoke about her life story.
Daniela Vargas speaks about the recent immigration raid that picked up more than 50 allegedly undocumented immigrants including her father and brother during a news conference Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Jackson, Miss., city hall.
CBS affiliate WJTV reports that she discussed recent events involving her family. Her brother and father were arrested on February 15 after ICE agents came to their home, according to the station.
Oh, how about that. I always figured that murderer Che was from Cuba. - Although I am happy to say I knew the guy who helped hunt him down and catch him. A great US vet.
It is reasonable for us to enforce our laws.
We were reasonable. She entered illegally, so the government has every right to deport her. We recognized, however, that she did not enter illegally by choice. Therefore we chose not to exercise the right to deport her, but rather allow her to remain here. As a condition of allowing her to remain, she had to pay a fee. She chose not to pay the fee. Since she broke the conditions of her amnesty, that amnesty no longer applies, and she’s being deported.
What’s so unreasonable? It’s analogous to a criminal who’s been paroled. We have every right to keep that person in prison, but have chosen not to exercise that right. The criminal is released subject to certain conditions. Violation of those conditions results in the criminal returning to prison.
Hahaha. I hope her assets are seized and she is never allowed to return. Criminal. Arrogant loser.
She gets a free trip to see her extended Family.
You would think President Trump would be complimented for keeping Families together. LOL
LOL! And the fine print—sponsored by your local ICE cream parlor.
Huh? What ... "new illegals" as contrasted to "old illegals"? She is an illegal ... a "current" illegal as she has been granted neither citizenship nor anmesty.
Compassion at the macro level be damned: It's important to bear in mind that we are not a "nation of immigrants" ... we are a "nation of citizens" ... a critical distinction.
The American people where promised in 1986 that, in exchange for compassionate treatment of illegal aliens, we would get border security. We were lied to and an invasion ensued.
Fool me once . . .
is this person transgender.
I don’t know, and I don’t really want to spend any time researching. (creepy)
I agree.
Fairly spoken. Good point. Nonetheless...
I get it. I still think the action is too harsh, no matter what she thinks. We’re winning, so now we want bad press? Let it go.
Alt-Leftists are having temper tantrums all over the place. Let them vent, and then let’s move on, I say.
I agree. She (i thought it was a he at first, some newsreports on this case refer to her as a he) Anyway, She was a DACA recipient, and paid $495 to apply again which is pending.
I say when they bring her in, check the status of her DACA application and let her go. For a 22 yo $495 isnt easy to quicky get. I understand her being late. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, good luck with that. You can email your Congress person. Ha!
Code of law is so complex. We are all criminals in one way or another, by design. She came here under no choice of her own at 7 years of age. She’s basically an American, by culture.
However, you can still be cruel if you like. It’s your right to reject discernment of justice. Have at it.
You’re the one second guessing the law, not me.
It’s legal to cut up a baby emerging from the womb on its birthday. Without anesthesia, no less. So, do you posit that the law is always right?
Your brand of justice is certainly not mine.
You’re right. I second guess the law. And so should you.
It’s the American way.
