DREAMer arrested in Miss. after speaking about immigration issues
CBS News | March 1, 2017

JACKSON, Miss. -- A woman who identified herself as a DREAMer was arrested after speaking at an immigration press conference in Jackson, Mississippi, CBS affiliate WJTV reports.

The arrest came amid a string of immigration raids and a lack of clarity about the scope of the Trump administration’s plans for deportations.

Daniela Vargas was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to attorneys Ramiro Orozco and Abby Peterson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

At the press conference, members of the metro area’s Latino community spoke about recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and President Trump’s first speech to a joint session of Congress. Abby Peterson, an attorney for Vargas, said that Vargas spoke about her life story.

Daniela Vargas speaks about the recent immigration raid that picked up more than 50 allegedly undocumented immigrants including her father and brother during a news conference Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Jackson, Miss., city hall.

CBS affiliate WJTV reports that she discussed recent events involving her family. Her brother and father were arrested on February 15 after ICE agents came to their home, according to the station.

What are we going to do if the government declares us criminals? Are we going to speak up?

So if I fail to file my taxes, it will be the government’s fault for being remiss in their duties and not sending someone to hold my hand to make sure I do it properly? That’s good to know. Good to know that out of compassion, they wouldn’t harass an otherwise law-abiding citizen just because they didn’t file their taxes properly.

I know. I’ve never heard of a single case in the history of the IRS of them just blowing it off if someone didn’t file taxes and it came to their attention. Compassion? They don’t cut taxpaying citizens one iota of slack.

This illegal wasn’t just ‘declared’ to be a criminal. She IS one - on multiple counts the way I see it.

You either believe in laws (which are the basis of determining criminality) or you are not.

Frankly, if you want to ‘speak up’ you should work to change the laws. I won’t stop you. Until then, it isn’t up to how we feel about some specific person because that requires a standard to judge with legal authority, and decide - according to the law.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say “obey this law, if you feel like it.”

This arrest is exactly what clarity looks like.

It is not about having a heart. The issue is about American federal law. She is in America illegally. She overstayed her visa. The legal remedy is she should be deported. She is not an American citizen, nor is she a legal alien visitor or resident of America. Adios. Welcome to Argentina.

Any illegal alien showing up in public, such as at protest, on TV, in meetings, wherever, should be arrested and deported

You mean, like they do it in Mexico, and most other countries?

"That's not who we are." /S

Unfortunately, Argentina is more leftist than we are. For one thing, their age of consent is only 15 years old. They allow for gay marriage, adoption by single or homosexual couples, blood donation, open military service, and there are hate crime laws for saying anything against the LGBT-Z lifestyles. They also have allowed for transgender ‘rights’ since 2006.

This is what should have happen every time the Democrats brought up someone who admitted to being in the country illegally to speak. I am glad to see the law is finally being enforced, unlike the last lawless president.

“Argentina not Argentine.”

The Brits refer to it as “The Argentine,” I thought that was where you were going with it.

Argentina gave us Che Guevara and the current dope of a Pope.

Plus they went out of their way to welcome Nazis after the war.
