CNN reported Wednesday on a senior administration official admitting that the White House intentionally misled reporters ahead of President Donald Trump‘s congressional address in order to get generate positive press coverage as part of a “misdirection play.”
Multiple reports Tuesday indicated that Trump would embrace a more moderate tone on immigration and would announce that he was willing to negotiate granting millions of illegal immigrants legal status. Most of those reports, cited to a “senior administration official,” came immediately after anchors lunched with Trump. Some of those outlets then just attributed the claim to the president himself.
But when it was time for Trump to actually give the speech, he said nothing of the sort. CNN’s Sara Murray complained the next day about “the bait and switch that the president pulled when it came to immigration yesterday. He had this meeting with the anchors, he talked about a path to legal status.”
“Basically they fed [them] things that they thought these anchors would like, that they thought would give them positive press coverage for the next few hours. A senior administration official admitted that it was a misdirection play,” she reported.
Host John King wondered why reporters should even trust the White House going forward. “It does make you wonder; so we’re not supposed to believe what the senior-most official at the lunch says — who then they allowed it to be the president’s name says — we’re not supposed to believe what they say?” he asked. “Maybe we shouldn’t believe what they say.”

Your incredulity doesn't mean much with the way the press has so abused their position. If they can't give "the Ws," it's fake...even if it isn't.
At least President Trump doesn’t pass out copies of a speech before he gives it. People who do this allow the media to spend the entire time of the speech preparing their attack articles instead of listening and paying full attention to the speech. A transcript cannot include all the nuances of body language, tone, audience reaction, etc.

You did indeed lose track. Your theory is that a Trump loyalist is undercutting him by leaking behind his back. My theory is that Trump purposefully misled the MSM—something he’s done multiple times in the past. It’s a favorite ploy of hus, and it always works on the gullible.

I was not a Never Trumper and read my posts. There are some of us to whom the immigration issue is very important and Trump has not let us down but you know how many so-called conservatives have on this issue.

I posted the other day that I believe Trump has turned the tables on the media by having his own “leakers” leak fake news knowing the media will run with it.
CNN has proven itself to be the Opposition Party.
CNN purposefully lies and creates #FAKENEWS.
This type of deception is what someone does to their enemy. When at war, it is acceptable to deceive, lie, distort and misdirect. This is what CNN has been doing. This is what the Opposition Party has been doing. The Opposition Party is the msm.
Knowing that CNN, msm, Opposition Party, has taken a warfare stance and has made Trump and his administration the enemy, then Trump and his administration has every right to respond to the Opposition Party in like manner.
In other words, CNN, msm, the Opposition has lost the right to the truth.
As such, it as acceptable for Trump and his administration to defend itself by treating them like an enemy.
