I think we need a federal EPA because there is an Interstate component to polution. Tennessee is downwind and downriver of other states.
It can probably be reduced in scope.
And it needs better checks and balances.
Much like the Board of Education, it should be nothing more than a mediation body that encourages cooperation amongst the various States.

The state of california destroys our air quality in northern nevada for weeks at a time in the summer with their mismanagement of forrests. For weeks at a time you can literally (not figuratively) not see the sun at high noon. Their billows of smoke extend hundreds of miles across Nevada and make it so you cant even see mountain ranges 5 miles away. There is probably a hundred times more greenhouse gasses released per fire than the entire population of Nevada produces in a year. I have never once heard the EPA say nary a peep about nevadas air quality

Making sure that everybody lives up to a minimum standard, and that states aren’t harming other states.
I think you are on the wrong forum. Any interstate issues can be addressed by the Interior and Commerce departments. The EPA is a monster that must be killed. It cannot be tamed.

Indeed. And every "regulation" that they issue which has the force of law should be passed through congress and voted on so we have a record of these things!

Yeah, with over 90% being currently controlled by the states from a-z. Why not just kick the >10% back to the states and have reciprocating agreements between affected states?
It can be tamed. The trick is to legislate and institutionalize the changes so that the next democrat can’t resurrect the beast.
The EPA became autonomous and lost track of their mission and boundaries, along with buying in to climate change and global collectivism.
States can do a better job. And if an issue from one state flows over into an adjacent state, they can give each other a call.
Because Tennessee wind doesn’t blow into Arkansas. So why would they have a reciprocating agreement with us.
Like wise very little Tennessee water flows into Kentucky.
If it is breathing at all when a demonrat takes power it will become a monster that will eat everyone’s liberty.

Tennessee already has a state Department of Environment & Conservation program called “Air Pollution Control”.
My state has the following:
Air Monitoring
Air Quality, Engineering and Sustainability
Air Quality Permitting
Air Quality Planning
Air Regulation Development
Air Toxics
Looks like we don’t need an EPA for that, then.

Tennessee air polution control can’t do squat about air coming across the border.
Besides even with states, the EPA has done a lot of good along with their abuses. I can remember when not a single lake in Louisiana was safe to swim in.
A lot of states had done a really lousy job with environmental issues.

You can petition your state to do a better job on this issue. And, with enough state-wide interest and support, I’m sure TN could get up to the snuff she so desired.
Up here in Washington State we have the Dept. of Ecology. Please don’t get me started on that bunch!
