What the police said, they were repeating from the people that reported it then. So why not just tell the reader who said what so we can figure out how likely this really happened and how likely it is just another left wing hoax?
A witness gave a statement to police backing the couple’s story and officers said there may be security video available from nearby businesses.
I am curious to know what aspects of the story the witness backed up. That there was yelling and reckless driving? Or did the witness hear the man say it was "Trump country?". These kinds of things are important when trying to figure out the thing readers want to know.
