The president was heading to his new flagship property in D.C., the Trump Hotel, for a private dinner at the BLT Steakhouse inside. Once the president arrived at the location, the reporter who was on assignment to cover him, Jordan Fabian of The Hill, was not let into the building and had to wait in the van outside for the remainder of the dinner, without a guest list or details of what was happening inside.
Inside the restaurant, I was seated at a table that had booked hours earlier, directly next to where Trump would be dining. I made the booking based on a tip from a trusted source. I was ready to tell the story no one else would get to see and was personally fascinated to observe how a restaurant prepares for a president and how Trump interacts when he believes no press are present...
6:45 PM: Our bacon tower appetizer arrives. Highly recommended.

What brought that about? I haven’t gotten there yet, but have recently found out that brussel sprouts sauteed in a little bacon grease are quite edible.
What brought that about? My obsession with beets! Brussel sprouts and bacon, eh! I am game!
Never could stomach beets. Admire those who can:)
They are good roasted. I think I like canned/pickled ones best, though.
Well, I never thought I would eat brussel sprouts again until my daughter asked for them. Maybe, I will give beets another try.
As I used to tell my kids, it won’t kill me to try it.
Beets have interesting side effects, especially if you roast your own, from fresh. Don’t be alarmed ;-)
Popovers, easily deflatable and O! such good southern food.
Nigel confirms our President is just a normal bloke. Beg to differ - how many in this country over the age of 10 eat a delicious steak with catsup? Hope the bottle of Heinz is kept far from the table.
Bacon Tower = a bacon souffle of some type? Must Google that one.
Mr. President, Sir, perhaps next time you might order some hush puppies and console the press using these. They seem to have their tails down and appear very unhappy.
It’s four slices of bacon pinned by clothespins to a string, on a frame. Avant-garde ;-)
IOW, all show and little meat. The bacon souffle would be much more enjoyable for an appetizer. Guess I missed the boat and it sailed without me. 4 strips of bacon leave me a bit disappointed.
No more food tonight; already the eyes are closing.
It’s candied bacon. It must sell well. It is served with some kind of pickles according to the menu.
Cool clothespin idea. Cool Prez!
It’s apparently a specialty of the Chef which he’s offered at other restaurants, and gets very good reviews:

Salt blocks are fabulous, I have one here!
Years ago I remember Trump telling someone that meatloaf was his favorite dinner.
I was alarmed too .. but now that I’ve read the whole report posted here, I can’t help but wonder if this was planned ..??
Remember, our President is a “Showman” .. maybe it was time for him to show the world that he is not the person the media is portraying him to be.
The second reason I think it might have been staged is the Secret Service (”SS”) reaction to the reporter. I’ve watched them work, and I can tell you .. they would have been watching this guy very, very closely. He was moving about all over the room; talking to other people, taking pictures, etc. Those actions would have made the SS very, very nervous.
So, my conclusion is that a “deal” was made and from the audience reaction to the President and other members of the new Govt, plus Nigel, the people at the restaurant seemed very pleased .. and happy.
IT’S ONLY THE DEMOCRATS THAT ARE MAD - SPOIL SPORTS - JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE SO VAIN THEY BELIEVED THEY COULD FOREVER FOOL THE AMERICANS INTO BELIEVING THEY CARED ABOUT AMERICA AND/OR HER PEOPLE.
It was really pleasant to see our President had a nice evening surrounded by family and friends.
If a journalist can get a tip like this, eventually an assassin can get a tip like this. As they know, the Trump team still has some leaks to fill.
Nah, there is other stuff you can use...:^)
weren’t the clinton’s and staffers known to stiff restaurants? They’d all just shuffle out and leave the owner stuck?
I do remember hearing that story several times both when he was governor and later after they left the white house.
My mom’s bacon was always really crispy, curled up and dark brown. When I started my first job at 14 (Burger King) and was making up the breakfast sandwiches with floppy light brown/beige bacon I wondered why in the heck they were serving customers under cooked meat that could make them sick lol.
Not even on fries here. I’ve tried, really I have. Just can’t like the stuff. Best hot dog for me is chili, cheese and onion. Or relish and celery salt with a little drizzle of mustard.
