The National Institutes of Health is spending nearly $400,000 studying transwomen in Uganda.

A new grant worth $163,996 was awarded just six days into the Trump administration, continuing a project that was initially awarded in April 2016.

Trump needs to call together every cabinet head and tell them there better not be any more of this crap and to cancel any existing grants.

to find online and text message interventions for this population

What would that be, I wonder. Surely they already know that homosexual sodomy carries a significant risk of disease, regardless of how the other man is dressed.

Maybe text messages could be used to persuade them that their dinglebobs will drop off immediately if they bugger one another.

Why are the progs obsessed with transgenderism?

I think it's just an issue they can use to bludgeon America and conservatives with. Trump's reversal last week of Obunghole's "memo" to schools to have tranny bathrooms came up in a meeting at work on Friday. Every one of the other 7 people in the room were aghast at Trump cancelling it. I sat there keeping my mouth shut.

The progs know their base very well. They know they can count on them to adopt whatever weird cause-du-jour they dream up, no matter how outlandish and bizarre.

It always leads me to wonder "what's next." They never fail to disappoint.

Typical LIB -loser payoff to “researchers” who just love to have OPM (Other Peoples’ Money) to waste. What a pathetic criminal joke by these loser “scientists”.

Every government department is doing this in different ways. Probably in many cases we would find that the “scientists” receiving the grants went to college with the bureaucrats who cut the checks.

Uganda has the most realistic anti-HIV program there is.

“Zero Grazing”

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1544373/
There has been considerable interest in understanding what may have led to Uganda’s dramatic decline in HIV prevalence, one of the world’s earliest and most compelling AIDS prevention successes. Survey and other data suggest that a decline in multi-partner sexual behavior is the behavioral change most likely associated with HIV decline. It appears that behavior change programs, particularly involving extensive promotion of “zero grazing” (faithfulness and partner reduction), largely developed by the Ugandan government and local NGOs including faith-based, women’s, people-living-with-AIDS and other community-based groups, contributed to the early declines in casual/multiple sexual partnerships and HIV incidence and, along with other factors including condom use, to the subsequent sharp decline in HIV prevalence. Yet the debate over “what happened in Uganda” continues, often involving divisive abstinence-versus-condoms rhetoric, which appears more related to the culture wars in the USA than to African social reality.

This article is from 2007. A post on the same site, dated 2013, mentioned “The need to reemphasize behavior change.”

“A new grant worth $163,996.......”

You can get a grant to study just about anything, all you have to do is convince that although worthless, someone needs to know how important your findings will be. Time to address the justification for such worthless information.

Once NIH grants are awarded (this was a renewal), the renewals are subject to rules and are determined by a priority score, not by the President.

Stopping nonsense like this involves more swamp draining than most people can even imagine.

There are an endless number of taxpayer funded research programs that generate useless information. About their only real benefit is providing employment for college professors. Society would benefit from less wasteful grant spending. Private sources of research funding concentrate their efforts on areas that will get results, as opposed to funding that supports friends, fellow travelers, and reliable voting blocks.

“Why are the progs obsessed with transgenderism?”

Because they oppose all human relations and categories that are not self-chosen. Their end game is a planet of solitary atomized individuals without families, clans, tribes, religions or nations, each with a credit card and an amazon.com account to order whatever pleases them at the moment from the global shopping mall and obedient to any ruler who can cancel their credit card.

They need new victim groups. They’ve taken the “gay” thing about as far as they can.

No doubt there are countless numbers of "grants" feeding the lifestyles of former Obama "officials" and supporters. Not that this hasn't been going on for decades, but I bet it went onto steroids in the past 8 years.

Eventually Trump will be able to start digging into the vast wasteland of Government spending.

Considering how prevalent this sort of thing is, it's easy to understand the visceral hatred for Trump and his promises to get government spending under control.

It’s NOT the private sources I am concerned about. If those who choose to spend their money for USEFUL studies, go for it. It is the waste of taxpayers money being spent for studies that provide absolutely NOTHING worthwhile. Unfortunately, there are more of such useless grants than one can imagine.

We both agree on that. My point was just that when people spend their own money they spend it on worthwhile research. When some bureaucrat is tasked with handing out $10 million as per their budget they end up funding pointless research. We've all seen plenty of that.

While the feds were spending close to $400,000 studying sexual practices in Uganda, and actually ignoring the abstinence oriented programs in Uganda that worked to reduce the spread of disease, private groups were busy vaccinating tens of thousands of children, developing solar powered lamps for poor communities, and working on prevention and cures for malaria.
