Exclusive: John Lofton takes Focus on the Family to task for thanking president
So, President Bush throws $2.2 billion down the Planned Parenthood rathole and Im supposed to thank him for not wasting the federal tax dollars of pro-life taxpayers?
Well, yes, thats what the folks at Focus On The Family want me and others to do.
The October 2008 issue of Citizen magazine has a full-page article with the headline: Thanks, Mr. President. A smaller headline reads: Pro-life taxpayers can thank President Bush for keeping their dollars from being misspent.
But, theres a slight problem here that keeps me from thanking Mr. Bush: during his term in office he approved giving Planned Parenthood at least $2.2 billion in federal tax dollars! Is this money that has been misspent? Hmmmm, Id say yes.
So, where do I get the $2.2 billion? From Jim Sedlak of the American Life League, an expert on Planned Parenthood and its federal funding. In an interview, Jim tells me the Bush administration has indeed extensively funded Planned Parenthood, the total amount of federal funding being at least $2.2 billion.
In Bushs first year, he approved $202 million for PP; in the last year of reporting (2006), Bush gave PP $337 million a single year funding increase of 67 percent.
Sedlak notes that in 2006, PP showed a $114 million profit so did not need federal funding. And yes, certainly, Jim says, every federal tax dollar given PP frees up one of its other dollars to pay for abortions.
And there are dollars that go into Planned Parenthood, especially state dollars, that pay for abortions. There are Medicaid programs, for example, that actually pay for abortions in some of the states. So some of this [federal] money goes directly to abortions.

I want a refund! I want PP to pay it all back to the treasury. And what they cant, make the politicians make up the difference.
Terry Schiavo. Disgusting elite sacrifice by Jeb. Check.
I don’t remember the issue right now, but I remember the House Republicans were in a huge fight while Bush was the candidate in 2000, and he went out and took the opposite position. Rush said at the time, “They’re out there taking the arrows, and instead of supporting them, he’s left them to die on the field.” Like I said, I don’t remember exactly what it was about, but I knew I was only voting against Gore from that point.
I’m no Bush fan, but without researching it, I wouldn’t doubt if you were right.
Never has the opportunity to roll back decades of entrenched liberalism been squandered more greatly than between January '03 and January '07 when Bush was President and the GOP controlled both the House and Senate.
Seriously? Is anyone REALLY surprised? The whole bunch are globalists, besties with clintons, friends with obamas and basically liberal.
Yep. Prescott Bush was a piece of work.
That tears it - I absolutely refuse to ever vote for him again!
2.2 Billion, not million of family money???
Is this accurate?
Planned Parenthood has received federal funding since 1970,
when President Richard Nixon signed into law the Family
Planning Services and Population Research Act, amending the
Public Health Service Act.
Fooled you once, shame on Bush....Fooled you THREE times, shame on you ;-)
They fooled a lot of us :(
I do not regret my vote for Nixon in 1972
(first vote as a new US citizen)
I do not regret my vote for Ford in 1976
I happily voted for Reagan in 1980 & 1984
I do not regret my vote for GHWBush in 1988
I regret my vote for GHWBush in 1992
(because his lips lied to us all)
I did not regret my vote for Dole in 1996
(a truly nice guy and a patriot)
I wish I can take back my votes for GWBush in 2000 & 2004
2008 was my least enthusiastic presidential vote ever for McCain the maverick
I do not regret my vote for Romney in 2012
(no way in hell I would consider voting for the Muslim community organizer from south side ghetto of Chicago)
In 2016, I voted most enthusiastically for DJTrump.
(never felt this patriotic before)
And me too.
Well you can’t always get what you want. But you might see the cycle broken, and that’s probably the best it gets.
Prescott Bush, one of the founders of Planned Parenthood, was Nixon’s patron since his first 1940’s Senate run.
It’s been said that Watergate happened when HW was overlooked as VP pick in ‘72 (Bob Woodward was Navy Intel working at the Post and in the Nixon White House under Alexander Haig... he was a Republican.)
Planned Parenthood has received federal funding since 1970,
Roe V Wade was 1971; not sure if Planned Parenthood could be actually funding abortions in 1970 or just doing Margaret Sanger’s racist works of sterilizing blacks and other unwanted minorities.
Nixon was Prescott Bush’s lackey since his first Senate run; Prescott Bush was founding member of Planned Parenthood.
1970, several presidents since then have approved budgets to which PPH got funding.
