Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) says she will not vote with fellow Republicans for an Obamacare repeal bill that defunds Planned Parenthood. The Affordable Care Act has failed in so many ways, but there are elements within it that deserve to be saved, Murkowski said, according to CBS affiliate KTVA.
As she addressed the Alaska state legislature Wednesday, the Republican senator said Obamacare has allowed for the expansion of Medicaid and the opportunity for more than 27,000 Alaskan citizens to obtain health insurance coverage.
Additionally, Murkowski said the provisions for pre-existing conditions, coverage for adult children up to the age of 26, and mental health coverage are all positive aspects of Obamacare.
As long as Alaska wants to keep the expansion it should have the option, Murkowski said. I will not vote to repeal it.
Murkowski also says she supports Planned Parenthood.
Taxpayer dollars should never be used to pay for abortions, but I will not vote to deny Alaskans access to the health services that Planned Parenthood provides, she said.

If you want to repeal Obamacare, repeal Obamacare.
If you want to defund Planned Parenthood, pass a separate bill defunding it.
When you combine these two uncorrelated goals into one bill, then you make BOTH impossible to pass.
They just lost their chance just as the voters in Arizona she was just re-elected.
The last thing in the world Sarah Palin wants is a day job.
What Trump and his new Sec. of Health and Human Services should do is go back to the original verbiage of the obamacare which has all members of Congress and staff to use obamacare. That was the original intent and then the congress critters began to whine and cry on how expensive it was and they were loosing staff members.
That ought to change congress’s minds....FAST
Agree 1000%
I thought she was an Independent (like The Burn and Leaky Leahy), but caucusing with the GOPee.
Remember when she was primaried? She was still by law allowed to run as an independent.
That's a serious flaw. Once a person is defeated in a primary, they SHOULD NOT be allowed to run in that same election for the same office.
How did she get elected in Alaska? Primary her.
One Term would be sufficient.
Doublespeak. Spoken like a true politician.
Thanks Alaska! We needed another Republican back stabbing idiot/traitor in the Senate!
She's been primaried once, but then she ran in the general and won. She just could not deprive Alaska of her services. Where's a Kodiak bear when you need one?!
My recollection is that there was a great deal of bullsh*t going on in that particular race. It seems that the great financial powers in Alaska pulled every trick to get her on the ballot and then finesse the vote count to declare her winner. I seem to remember a court case being involved.
Yeah, last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it.
If you want to defund Planned Parenthood, pass a separate bill defunding it.
When you combine these two uncorrelated goals into one bill, then you make BOTH impossible to pass.
And I suspect that is exactly what they intended when they did this.
FWIW, the witch is catching he## on social media.
She WAS primaried, and she LOST.
She won her seat back on a write-in campaign. Even though that meant lots of people had to spell Murkowski.
You wanted this, Alaska.
Apparently you wanted it pretty damned bad.
Part of the Washington game is to have "safe" Senators vote against their constituents so that the vulnerable ones don't have to. Bottom line is the establishment position gets enacted regardless of what the constituents want.
