Texas Sen. Ted Cruz anticipates another vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court will arise in a matter of months.
I think well have another Supreme Court vacancy this summer, Cruz said at the Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday. If that happens, as much as the left is crazy now, they will go full Armageddon meltdown because the next vacancy is where well have the ability to act and restore basic constitution protections.
Though Cruz was not more specific, as a former law clerk to Chief Justice William Rehnquist, he enjoys access to a network of former clerks privy to the plans of their former bosses.
Rumors have abounded since fall 2016 that Justice Anthony Kennedy may seriously be mulling retirement.
The Trump administration has quietly encouraged Kennedy to retire in recent weeks, sending signals meant to coax him into leaving the bench.
Other rumors have suggested Justice Clarence Thomas is preparing to depart the bench. His wife, Ginni Thomas, has expressly disavowed such suggestions.
I’ve always thought that he believes he is destined to be President, and would turn the Court down.
Forever tainted. What the hell was he thinking ??
IMHO Kennedy doesnt retire first; as matters stand this is actually the Kennedy Court. Whatever he rules is the decision of the court, and that has to be heady stuff. But if Ginsburg were to leave - and be replaced by a good Trump nomination from his list - Kennedy would find himself usually being either the unnecessary sixth winning vote or the fourth vote on the losing side.
So it would not surprise me if a Ginzburg retirement precipitated a Kennedy retirement.
He is, but that won’t stop him from trying to be in the news.
He’s not! Alito is 66 years old.
Absolutely.
Help the left vent their anger, stoke their anger and go further left.
We can probably increase our side by 8, maybe more if we get some real momentum nationally and internationally, then we stand a chance of 12.
We lose 2 but, the net gain is where we really clean up, particularly if we grab one more SCOTUS, for a gain of 1.
That brings us to 2020, when the left just goes crazy, whatever that could be .
Nevertheless, we must promote them going batshit and even further left.
If we do it right, 2020 will begin the long search for purpose, as they wander through the desert for 10 years.
I think by 2024, it’s possible to have a super majority in the house and 60-62 Senate.
Combine that with what will, by then , be a gain of 4 SCOTUS and we are saved for the next 100 years.
I’ve been telling my friends:
“Geeze, show me on the doll where the election hurt you”...
I do think it’s Kennedy. That’s this summer. Ginsburg could be any day, any minute. I do think they’ll be three. I’m smiling right now.
The only way those leftist will retire is they will be hauled out
If it’s Ginburg, that young woman better be prepared to follow up on her promise to donate her own blood and body parts.
Ginsburg recently said she’s staying through next year, but is taking it one year at a time.
Me too. I think Cruz would be a good pick. He was a terrible Presidential Candidate, but could be very good on the Supremes.
Alito is going to be 67. I think you mean Byers who will be 79 and a big lib.
Cruz has already been vetted through the presidential campaign so he would be harder to take out by the screeching libs. He would be great.
Five in the next four years, including the current one...
I thought they’d be replacing the eugenicist before the flip flopper.
SB1070 isn’t killed. In fact, it forced the mayor of Phoenix to cite it as a reason why Phoenix will never become a sanctuary city.
“Hes not! Alito is 66 years old.”
Good news. He’s a spring chicken for a SC Justice.
Gorsuch is supposed to be Kennedy’s replacement. Gorsuch clerked under Kennedy.
It’s Anthony Kennedy that is probably the next to retire. Some say he is being strongly encouraged to leave by the Trump administration. He taught me Constitutional Law at the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law in 1973. He is 80 and has expressed the desire to retire during a Republican administration.
