We need to make America great again, and for that Donald Trump might be our man. For all the anxiety the White House has caused, brewing constitutional crises at home and anger abroad, Mr. Trump has opened a path to reunify this politically divided nation.
A “team of rivals” that transcends party lines, composed of eminent men and women, could rein in the administration. This bipartisan group, preferably endorsed by past U.S. presidents, would be made up of former cabinet members and heads of independent federal agencies. Inspired by the British Shadow Cabinet, it would be structured to mirror the official cabinet and would issue rapid, sharp critiques and cogent alternatives to the administration’s most dangerous policies.
By becoming a recognizable public fixture, the group would wield the clout necessary to compete with the White House’s megaphone, offering the disgruntled public a clear opposing stance rather than the disparate, and sometimes desperate, efforts today. The group would provide the opposition much-needed focus by identifying the most destructive policies and pronouncements: some examples from the first few weeks include antagonizing our allies, forcing through an ill-considered immigrant ban, undermining the judicial system, and politicizing the National Security Council.

All of those investments you made in communist countries DO NOT BELONG TO YOU! They belong to the communists that you are dealing with. You have absolutely no recourse to recover losses WHEN they take your business over through expropriation.
Stop Trump? No- stop the will of the American people whose will Trump is carrying out! The minority has been ruling the majority and is determined to continue to do so. They would destroy the Constitution and the country itself to accomplish their goals. We- and Trump- must be more determined that they will not do so. Unity is impossible when your opponent defines unity as ‘obedience’.
Well stated. Still, there’s nothing to prevent someone forming a ‘shadow’ government. If the DNC wanted to vet some of their members or anyone else as being ready to step in as cabinet secretaries, assuming they could be vetted by the Senate, no one would gainsay them their kabuki. One problem I see is that the Democratic bench is so thin, if not empty, they wouldn’t have enough players to form a scrum.
As long as no taxpayer money is involved, what do we care?
Couple hours ago there was a crawler on FNC that NSC head resigns, haven’t heard a peep about it since.
There already is a group who should constantly critique Trump’s actions: the people who voted for him.
Anyone advocating for another group to change his actions is really saying they want our votes to be negated and they want us to get Hillary even though Trump won. This is the opposite of “democracy” which the left claims to value.
Trump doesn’t need people to slow him or direct him or whatever....he didn’t get here by being like the rest ...HE GOT HERE BY BEING BETTER AND DIFFERENT AND MEANER THAN THE REST.

Which Democrat bigwig is going to admit he’s not really in much of a leadership position and volunteer to be the go-to Veterans Affairs guy? Only someone relatively young or inexperienced, who will command no respect from ambitious Democrat bigwigs.
I have suggested that the GOP should require presidential primary candidates to pledge to serve in the Cabinet of the winner, and the winner pledge to appoint his rivals. That would be something similar to the parliamentary system. And it would NEVER happen here.
Since the "shadow cabinet" members work for no one but themselves, have no authority, and no responsibility, they would be nothing more than a semi-officially recognized babble of talking heads; they would contend with each other as often as the government, and they would contribute nothing when unified that the opposition doesn't already provide.
We already have that.

Irving Kristol (Bill’s pappy) the “godfather of neoconservatives” was a Trotskyite.
Kristol was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of non-observant Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, Bessie (Mailman) and Joseph Kristol.
He received his B.A. from the City College of New York in 1940, where he majored in history and was part of a small but vocal Trotskyist anti-Soviet group who eventually became the New York Intellectuals.
They were anti-Soviet because Trotsky urged an international war by communists against capitalist, bourgeois countries while Stalin wanted to consolidate a rather shaky hold on a very large landmass.
They don’t like to be called liberals or socialists, preferring to be called progressives; in fact, Kristol & Co. actually have the temerity to call themselves conservatives.
But we know why “neocons” constantly urge war all over the globe and applaud people like Obama and Clinton, while ignoring our own borders and the Weal of the American people. And we know what they really are: Reds, neo-communists.
Because they know better.

The “Shadow Government” is already known by another name - the “Deep State”.
Funny, but for a “government in exile”, shouldn’t the people who populate those positions actually BE in exile?

Iran had a “Shadow Government” before the Shah was kicked out by Jimmy Carter. By bringing the Ayatollah Khomeini back from Paris, a whole chain of events was put into action that has had most grievous results.
