David Petraeus will not be replacing Michael Flynn as Donald Trump's next national security adviser.
Trump ousted Flynn on Monday in a controversy over the retired lieutenant general's contacts with Russia.
Petraeus, a retired general and former CIA director, expressed concern about Trump's reluctance to grant the new adviser full discretion over policy and staffing.
On Friday, Petraeus told the Munich Security Conference: 'Whoever it is that would agree to take that position certainly should do so with some very, very significant assurances that he or she would have authorities over the personnel of the organization.
'That there would be a commitment to a disciplined process and procedures,' the Wall Street Journal reported.

Whew, thank God...
Was he asked? I doubt it.
Right! He cant be trusted. He has proven that.
Winning!
THANK GOD for that!!!! I don’t Trust Petraeus he VOTED for the BITCH, KNOWING she DAMNED WELL violated OUR SECURITY!!! What the HELL kind of a General would condone such a thing!!!
IIRC, both Petraeus and McChrystal are democrats. Petraeus gave classified info to a mistress. That mistake would keep him out of my cabinet.
Whew. A globalist that has seen less combat that John Kerry.
You said it well.
plus 1!!!
We all know/knew Petreaus would never get the position...the media just likes to rev it up.
That’s good.
He has a zipper problem that led him to reveal classified info to his girlfriend.
Petraeus is a servant of the usurper Obama. He is a disgrace. The personification of DISHONOR.
I am not heartbroken.
Thank goodness.
Good.
Just curious: I wonder how many of these people are “listed” as being considered for positions, just for show?
It is a resume enhancer for the candidates, and it shows the administration is considering a variety of people.

Petraeus reportedly began an affair with Paula Broadwell, principal author of his biography, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus, after Petraeus left his ISAF command on July 18, 2011 to become CIA director. Petraeus reportedly ended the affair in the summer of 2012, around the time that he learned that Broadwell had been sending harassing emails to a longstanding family friend of the Petraeuses, Jill Kelley.[185]
Military historians have noted the absence of field records for the Iraq and Afghanistan military campaigns, but have not personally been critical of the commanders in theater.[197] One additional aspect of Petraeus's career that has come under increased scrutiny since his affair came to light has been his lack of a direct combat record in relation to the many awards he received. In particular, his Bronze Star Medal with Valor device has been mentioned in several media reports and questioned by several former Army officers.[198] The citation for Petraeus's Bronze Star w/"V" device also notes his "leadership under fire", and the award of the Combat Action Badge reflects the same.
In January 2015, The New York Times reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department had recommended bringing felony charges against Petraeus for providing classified information to Broadwell. Petraeus denied the allegations and was reported to have had no interest in a plea deal.[199] However, on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the U.S. Justice Department announced that Petraeus agreed to plead guilty in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina to a charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified information.[200] In the 15 page statement of facts filed by the government along with the plea agreement, the government stated that Petraeus had provided Broadwell access to documents containing Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information, had later moved those documents to his personal residence and stored them in an unsecured drawer, and had deliberately and intentionally lied to Federal investigators about both providing Broadwell access to the documents and their improper storage. These facts were acknowledged to be true by Petraeus as part of his plea agreement.[201]
On April 23, 2015, a federal judge sentenced Petraeus to two years probation plus a fine of $100,000. The fine was more than double the amount the Justice Department had requested.[202]

Surely the suggestion of Pretraeus as NSA is a ploy to investigate him further, and no doubt something he would never open himself up to.
Ask yourself what would happen to such a "commander" in Russian, China, Israel, or any other country that takes the leadership of their fighting forces seriously.
Agreed. I see this as a good thing.
Petraeus has shown that he can not be trusted with protecting classified information. As such, he is no longer qualified for any position that has access to sensitive information. It makes him vulnerable to blackmail.
How could he be.
That would be awkward, since Trumps already appointed Lt. General Keith Kellogg to that position.
I loved Petraeus in Iraq, but he does seem to have been compromised by the Obama admin, and involved up to his eyeballs in arming jihadis in Syria.
H. R. McMaster is an interesting choice, he is an open-minded thinker. John Bolton knows the world pretty well, but neither are really intel community guys. Maybe that would be good for a change.
I hope that Flynn is taken care of. I suspect that a big reason folks are shy of taking the job, is that they are not confident that the President would have their back, after he tossed Flynn over the rail.
