French presidential frontrunner Emmanuel Macron has drawn a storm of criticism from his rivals after calling France’s colonization of Algeria a “crime against humanity”.

In a TV interview in Algiers this week, the centrist said French actions in Algeria, which achieved independence in 1962 after eight years of war, were “genuinely barbaric, and constitute a part of our past that we have to confront by apologizing”.

His visit also included a stop at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Algiers, saying he wanted to promote a “reconciliation of memories” between the two countries.

The violent history between France and Algeria is still a source of tension between the two countries and within French political circles. …

I wonder what he thinks about the Barbary Pirates and all the centuries of slaving and kidnapping that only ended when their nests were finally cleaned out?

Algeria was a neglected wasteland until the French colonized it and redeveloped the farm lands that had lain idle since the muslim conquest.

Then thousands of additional muslims migrated there, due to its new prosperity.

Three generations later, the French were kicked out.

The French can apologize when the Arabs apologize for their treatment of the native Berbers.

Have you been tempted with a send in the Marine joke in all this?

Crime, no. Mistake, yes.

Algiers sticks to France like a splash of sticky diarrhea.

I haven’t followed Macron, but he’s a former Investment banker who made million off mergers, but is also a socialist. It appears he has all the western-cultural-loathing characteristics and slogans of the modern left.

This is the face of the crony-capitalist, statist, socialist, globalist left. It seems a contradiction but we have the same here in the USA.

The Algerians continued to attack and enslave Christians and commit piracy in the Mediterranean until 1850, when the French conquered Algeria.

It appears that the colonization of Algeria did not go far enough. They should have banned Islam as well.

Not really.

But it does appear that Marine Le Pen holds a five point lead going into the first round.

Like the centuries of Islamic aggression, slave raiding and disruption of commerce that caused the dark ages these ignoramus PC folks can’t seem to remember pesty details like that.

Nope: far too busy praising Islam for not burning maybe 10% of all classical learning that they mistakingly cite as Islam preserving same.

“Vouloir-etres.” Or maybe, “veux-etres.” Or “veut-etres.” Not sure if you should use infinitive, first/2nd person present, or 3rd person present. Slightlier catchier than it looks, but not as good as “wanna-bes.”

“Voot-ehtHeh.” With the “H” representing an “r” that sounds a lot like the “H” in “hannukaj,” and the “oo” sounding like something between ‘pUt,” and “hOOt.”

Shouldn’t the French confront their cowardice in WWII too?
