A copy of a draft order reported by The Washington Post earlier this month and being circulated among cabinet members seeks to address what the order describes as a massive burden on the American taxpayer.
The order calls for immigrants likely to need certain types of public aid to be identified prior to entry, and for immigrants already using those services to be deported.
The draft order also requires strict financial responsibility for relatives who promised to support immigrants who are instead now relying on social aid.
The potential savings estimated by the order are as high as $100 billion, although little data exists to support that figure.
Welfare is a way of life for too many immigrants, according to the Center for Immigration Studies. All immigrants, legal and illegal, are more likely than native-born people to use some form of welfare. Those who have U.S.-born children make far greater use of the system.
We should be welcoming immigrants with open arms, not an open wallet. Liberals are losing their minds over the idea that we might inject some economic realism into our immigration policies.
He [Trump] would literally be taking food out of the mouths of babes, Kevin Appleby of the Center for Migration Studies told The Washington Post.
Perhaps instead of reaching out to immigrants the moment they set foot on our soil to connect them with social service programs, we need to be connecting them with jobs the minute they arrive.

To work with the GOP Congress in his second term, Clinton “triangulated” on welfare and forced workfare into the equation. You had to try to work to keep your welfare.
I remember in 2009 or 2010, Obama just up and reversed Clinton’s work. And hardly anyone complained, to my astonishment.
I never saw that Welfare fix as much more than smoke and mirrors. Let me explain.
Welfare to work was passed off as some really great achievement. Was it? Here’s one story I know of. It played out tens of millions of times.
There was a volunteer at the place I used to work.
He was on Welfare. He had to work to get Welfare payments.
He was hired and worked for 8 to 16 hours per week, at the lowest wages possible. For these hours, he was reclassified as working in the workforce. He was no longer classified as on Welfare or unemployed.
This was what was meant by Welfare to work. He was reclassified as working, but was still getting Welfare.
I have no doubt Welfare continued to pay him more than his salary because there is no way he could have survived on what he was earning.
I’m sure he got housing, some kind of medical care, and food stamps.
Was this really welfare reform?
Is 8 to 16 hours per week really a full-time employee?
Did this really stop our financial exposure for the guy?
Of course not.
Did I care if Obama undid this? Undid what? It was a pipe dream all along.
Hmmm... thanks for your perspective. I didn’t see that up close.
When I was an ew for food stamps it was super easy to spot the illegals. Their paperwork always had the American born kids listed as eligible and then everyone else in the household listed as ineligible. The income for the household was always really low so that they drew maximum benefits for the eligible kids. For rent they’d list stuff like....owner lets us live rent free to do maintenance on the place. That was to explain how they were living on what they supposedly made working.
They knew all the angles and there was no way of proving otherwise.
Look, I could be wrong too, but this is what I learned from someone who knew what was going on.
We knew of two people in the mid 1900s, a man and a woman husband wife.
One of them explained what programs they were on. Housing, cash, food, medical care...
We figured out their income and they were making more than we were, two of us working full time at decent wages.
I believe they were going to school also, so that was probably on the public dime some way also.
These people seem to know every angle in the book, even if they are new to the country.
I went to take some classes at our local community college.
While I was standing in line, the guy in front of me was signing up for his classes. When it came time to pay his fees, he tossed up his hands and said something like indigent. Here was this well dressed young man, demanding the government cover his fees. And so it did.
I walked up to pay my fees and the lady look me right in the eyes, and transmitted volumes without speaking a single word.
I paid my fees and went on my way.
My Sister-in-Law, RIP, was pretty good at milking family and system, but she was an amateur compared to the anecdotes you just told.
Part of it is that the system is so milkable. I knew a woman who immigrated for marriage to a friend of mine, and got a green card. My friend died, and she had to go back to her home country in Eastern Europe. Every year or so she would come back, and remark on how the balance on her food EBT card had just ballooned into the thousands. Even though she wasn’t around, didn’t use the card, and was never asked to confirm her presence, credits kept piling up.
When my grandfather arrived at Ellis Island in the early 20th century, he was accompanied by his parents and an aunt. They were screened for health issues, and his aunt was found to have some kind of eye infection. They put her back on the ship and she was forced to make the journey back to Europe.
I think every family has a person in it that pulls those routines. I couldn’t live like that. It would eat me up inside. Some folks are less fortunate, so sometimes it is beyond their control.
That was eye opening about the EBT card. Wow. Nice...
I’m sure glad to chip in to pay for that each year. /s
It is well past time.
Welfare needs to be abolished in its entirety.
This is one of the bad aspects of immigration law. Family members receive special consideration to come. So, while you get minor children, you also get siblings and aged, unemployable adults. The more government services, the faster they can be registered to vote”D”
Why are media headlines leftist-oriented? Where is the headline that says “Decent and Normal Americans Ecstatic Over Trump’s Draft EO”.
Unsurprising, as Hebrew is written right to left...
the infowarrior
THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO COME TO THIS COUNTRY, SUPPOSEDLY SPONSORED(whoops) by their relatives ....but immediately go on welfare and get Nothing from their relatives.....it has to stop.
to the girl in the picture....you have identified yourself as classless.
I had to personally guarantee my Wife would not be a burden to the taxpayers for 7 years when we got her a Green Card
President Trump really is making America great again.
Later and thanks
Thanks again for your feedback. Sheds light on a problem that's always been a big question mark for me. You see this entourage at Walmart or wherever, six or ten people come in, kids running ahead and you wonder what they do for a living. I'm sure some I see are working, etc, but the big groups always raise a red flag for me.
Steve Wozniak paid $5,000,000.00 to emigrate to Australia.
