The United States is much better off without Michael Flynn serving as national security adviser. But no one should be cheering the way he was brought down.
The whole episode is evidence of the precipitous and ongoing collapse of America's democratic institutions not a sign of their resiliency. Flynn's ouster was a soft coup (or political assassination) engineered by anonymous intelligence community bureaucrats. The results might be salutary, but this isn't the way a liberal democracy is supposed to function.
Unelected intelligence analysts work for the president, not the other way around. Far too many Trump critics appear not to care that these intelligence agents leaked highly sensitive information to the press mostly because Trump critics are pleased with the result.
"Finally," they say, "someone took a stand to expose collusion between the Russians and a senior aide to the president!" It is indeed important that someone took such a stand. But it matters greatly who that someone is and how they take their stand. Members of the unelected, unaccountable intelligence community are not the right someone, especially when they target a senior aide to the president by leaking anonymously to newspapers the content of classified phone intercepts, where the unverified, unsubstantiated information can inflict politically fatal damage almost instantaneously.
But no matter what Flynn did, it is simply not the role of the deep state to target a man working in one of the political branches of the government by dishing to reporters about information it has gathered clandestinely. It is the role of elected members of Congress to conduct public investigations of alleged wrongdoing by public officials.
Those cheering the deep state torpedoing of Flynn are saying, in effect, that a police state is perfectly fine so long as it helps to bring down Trump.

Oh most definitely. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump hasn’t already been on the phone to Pompeo and told him get his people in line/fire them or he’s next. Trump has no problem firing people. I expect a lot of turnover in this administration.
Heads are gonna be rolling everywhere. This counter-government BS cannot be tolerated.
Isn't that his job ? He wasn't a private citizen when he talked with the Russians. If he had been, that would have been illegal.
He can’t get rid of congressmen. Unless a crime is proven. But I agree.
True, but Trump has a Trump card: DACA. I seen a lot of wailing an gnashing of teeth from some folks here about why he hasn't done anything about that yet. He's holding 750,000 + illegals hostage to make sure his legislative agenda and his SCOTUS pick get through.
And if Congress decides to screw him then he'll veto the Sh*t out of whatever comes across his desk. He'll go scorched earth and make these people beg for mercy, especially when he threatens to pull forces out of Europe.
One day a long time ago, we had a CIA flunky assigned to our unit. After we determined that he might be a detriment to our mission, we called the local mama-san.
Mama-san took him to the village and entertained him for the duration. He most likely returned home with various incarnations of VD that still have no cures.
The CIA is not special, unless you watch and believe Hollywood propaganda.
“This is not America any more; it is a Soviet State of spying and subterfuge.”
What it is is Obama’s moles. We have to assume that they will be ferreted out.
Thank you for that. I too am sickened by the whole CIA “Masters of the Universe” myth.
How is that possible? We recruited heavily from the Ivy League.
The shadow government deep within the alphabet agencies is going to be a main cause for concern in the swamp cleaning task.
Congress is the most protected class next to the judicial branch. Congress gets intel updates just like the president. It will be a long 'hunt' to ferret out the criminals, but IF anyone can get it done, Trump can.
This is what I think really happened:
Flynn did nothing wrong in his conversations with the ambassadors. He did probably give them a heads up that sanctions were being discussed seriously. In the news, but everything is serious to the media if it is other than the liberals. Flynn gave the VP plausible deniability regarding the sanctions question. Up to this point, a pretty standard operating procedure. But that is not how President Trump roles. President Trump wants the straight up truth from his team. So partially Flynn was an example, but also it was strategic move to counter the democrats. They have put a huge amount of effort into the plan to take Flynn down. They started when Pres. Trump became the Pres. Elect or even sooner. He had been a huge thorn in the dems side and was going to spill the beans on the secret Iran side deals. By having Flynn resign, that work all goes for naught. That is why they are still flailing about going after him even though he is out. Flynn isn’t going away. He will likely be back as a contractor in a quiet position.
I don’t “side” with people. I think it best to side with the truths and principles found in the Declaration of Independence and th US Constitution. At least politically.
I’m not going to second guess Trump, nor do I particularly care either way about Flynn but allowing the CIA to get away with this will result in the Government controlled by the CIA. They need to be purged to the last agent for getting involved in politics.
My question- If it is true that he lied to Pence-whatever for? He was doing nothing wrong-The FBI cleared him of wrongdoing? Why would it seem like a good idea to lie?
Best analysis yet is in this article. A pro wrote it, evidently. The writer sticks with fairness to the seriousness of both the methods and the out, in this excerpt.
Interesting take.
That is a cogent analyses. It is just wrong as hell. YOU WANT “STRAIGHT UP “ AND trump KEEPS COMEY?? COMEY?? Give me a damned break!! This is WEAK!!
Obama did nothing with Iran without the full support of a Republican Congress. There are more than just 'democrats' that need the Iran deals covered -up.
