I subscribe to Meetup to see what groups are meeting in my area. I received a company email that stated:
Meetup has always served as an organizing platform for a wide range of political views, welcoming everyone from the Howard Deaniacs to the Tea Party. Meetup will always welcome people with different beliefs.
But after the recent executive order aimed to block people on the basis of nationality and religion, a line was crossed. At a time when core democratic ideals feel under attack, we feel a duty to spark more civic participation.
Last week, we created 1,000+ #Resist Meetup Groups to act as local hubs for actions on behalf of democracy, equality, human rights, social justice, and sustainability. Already 50,000+ people have joined.
These #Resist Meetups are open to anyone who want to create a bright future that's rich with opportunity and freedom for all.
Meetup exists to connect people so they create opportunity and make the world they want. We hope members take these Meetups forward to be powerful together.
But notice their language towards the Tea Party. It looks like they are trying to have it both ways. Because they didn't censor Tea Party groups then it should be just fine that they facilitate leftists groups and openly recruit members.
Decide for yourself. See the main link at Source.
The ask, “concerned where the country is heading”. Well yes I am but we know where they stand when you can only express concerns they agree with. Progressive = Fascist.
“...At a time when core democratic ideals feel under attack....”
The vomit hit the floor here....
Has anyone pointed out to these liberals that want to leave the USA that the countries where they want to go won’t let them simply cross the border?
They should start #Submit groups for jihadis.
I’ve long called such apps “Socialist Networking”.
What did people think that “flash mobs” were all about?
Testing the lines of communication to “spontaneously” create havoc/attention.
Go to a meeting and infiltrate and film the bastards openly plotting sedition, then turn them into to the FBI...
Illegal immigration isn't about "Freedom". It is about seditious overthrow of the border.
Obamacare isn't about "Freedom". I'm paying $70 more per paycheck than I did last year for my insurance I am required by law to carry. I have not received a pay increase. Obummer lied when he said I would save $2500 per year.
We’re a Republic Social Web App Meetup...
Good grief are you folks dim.
Did they miss Berkeley Kristallnacht when the masked blackshirts smashed windows to silence a Jewish speaker? Maybe they see opportunity in the fallicy of broken glass or maybe "free" is what they see "Arbeit macht". (Yes, I know I hit Godwin's law with a vengeance. I can see no other comparisons.)
Thanks for the post. I am appalled, have tweeted my discontent, and deleted my Meetup account.
Their blog post states an outright lie about the measure: “after Donald Trumps order to block people on the basis of nationality and religion”.
I am so sick of this crap.
1000 free groups for anti-Trump protestors is far different from taking the money of tea party groups.
And they lie about and misrepresent Trump and his positions as well. They are disgusting and should go the way of Macy’s.
Does anyone have a best (and likely cheaper) Meetup alternative to recommend?
You’re dim if you don’t realize the muscle that Meetup has behind this—funded by conservative and liberal users alike.
What they are doing is just wrong.
The reign of terror, the mob, was for "democracy, equality, human rights, social justice, yadda yadda.
We on the other hand are a representative Constitutional Republic, and sustainability is for bra manufacturers, I think.
I think this counts as organized overthrow of the government.
“I subscribe to Meetup to see what groups are meeting in my area. I received a company email that stated:”
I cancelled my meetup account today. Did you see who is sponsoring #resist? It’s the ACLU, PP, SEUI and every left wing group out there.
Their @meetup Twitter feed on this is solid negative. People are posting their cancelled accounts. People are getting tired of this.
It’s a bad business move.
Amazing. Free for the leftist and all others pay. I go to a Meetup group (Book club) and the organizer has a fee they pay.
This is hitting home...don’t want to give up my book club. There are hundreds (maybe 600+)of these Meetups of all different kinds in my area. But, I think the FEE FREE is the way to complain and hit back on the UNFAIRNESS (good lib term).
