The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.

Water no longer going over emergency spillway.
That link is 8 hours ago.
From the live stream the other day, the incoming storms are supposed to be colder and the snow level will drop considerably. The snow level during the last storm was 8k feet. They’re counting on that to keep the inflow down. It will be interesting to see how long it will take them to drain 50ft of surface level. That’s a lot of water with a damaged spillway.

Water no longer going over emergency spillway.
Thanks to you both.
I guess they pause it during commercials.
Our lake - Travis - in centex is very similar to yours in construction and geology, although we have no ‘extra’ spillways and it’s 720ft tall. In our 4yr drought, it dropped almost 50ft. Our river authority is quite happy to drown us behind the dam to avoid splashing the boats docked in Lake Austin below, done it many times to us. Even the governor has a hard time forcing them to open #2 of the 8 floodgates.
Intentionally dropping our lake 50ft would take Months.. but we recovered 50’ of depth in one month two years ago, torrential rains.
According to this site
http://cdec.water.ca.gov/cgi-progs/queryF?ORO
The lake is down about 4 feet from yesterday evening. Good sign.
Ever since the 9th Circus Court took away our Prop 187 years.
This state with the best roads, dams and infrastructure in America and probably the world started to deteriorate.
Money designated to the above started going to the illegals in California.
Of course liberals put themselves, family and friends into high paying positions to spend our and your Tax$’s on their new voters flowing in from Mexico.
So the funding for the up keep of our roads, highways, bridges and dams and other infrastructure has been funneled into the illegals and the systems that fund their lifestyles in Caliland for decades.
We have long neglected infra structure timebombs through out California by taking from Peter and Mary to buy Juan and Juanita a good life in California without paying any of the costs.
Tweet from Dr. Ryan Maue (@RyanMaue):
EPS [00z] ensemble mean has 6-inches+ rainfall in next 5-10 days for Oroville & above at elevation catchment area will drain to Lake.
(i.e., 6 inches+ of rainfall in the general area that will all end up behind the dam - no relief in sight)
Follow-up tweets from @RyanMaue regarding the volume of rainfall coming... it’s actually frightening:
> Assume 6” of precipitation across 3950 sq mile across Lake Oroville catchment area (Feather River) = 400 Billion gallons of liquid input.
> Lake Oroville holds 1.15 Trillion gallons — so 0.4 Trillion gallons rainfall = 1/3 of capacity on the way [assuming no outflow]
Even if HALF of that ends up being correct, I can’t see how that dam doesn’t over-top all together.
“I would be furious if I lived anywhere near this dam. Unresponsive government is inexcusable. The hell with the train, fix the damned dam.”
The people living below the dam and evacuated last night are not rich Californians. They work on farms, ranches and other jobs to live in apartments, condos and smaller homes south of the dam.
So what they going to do to feed their families and for lodging while the rent and mortgage payments on their evacuated homes need to be paid.
Money in the areas where they are now will be scarce as ATMs get pounded for cash.
The restaurants/grocery stores where they are now are probably out of inventoy to feed people.
People, who brought their pets with them have to be in a serious problem of where to keep their pets and how to feed them.
Ah. That is because the spillway is ABOVE the dam itself?
>>> Oroville is a concrete and bedrock dam. <<<
Where did you get your information?
Wiki has it as a concrete encased earthen dam:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroville_Dam
==
Oroville Dam is an earthfill embankment dam on the Feather River east of the city of Oroville, California, in the United States. At 770 feet (230 m) high, it is the tallest dam in the U.S.[7] and serves mainly for water supply, hydroelectricity generation and flood control.
It’s always pitiful in looming natural disaster, with the innocent, totally dependent domesticated animals. I hope they all find a place for them until this passes. I completely understand why the Lord had mercy upon Nineveh because of the cattle, not meaning to imply that this area of California is somehow deserving as Nineveh was.
Can they drop the lake 30% of capacity before the rains begin?
It looks from the pictures that the top of each of the two spillways are lower than the top of the dam which makes sense since if the top of the spillways were higher than the dam then the dam would spill over first.
Live stream...
Exactly. CA now has 200K ‘refugees’. Will islamo ‘refugees’ be helped first?
