The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) made its largest lease sale in four years, marking the start of President Donald Trumps plans to expand drilling on federal lands.
BLM sold drilling rights on 278 parcels of public land for $129.3 million. Bids ranged from $2 per acre to $16,500 per acre. The land sold was mostly located in Wyoming about half of which is directly controlled by the federal government.

It is the “... condense and boil ...” language that makes no sense.
Probably not the best choice of words.
Microwave fracking shoots microwaves into the ground to heat up oil shale and boil the petroleum to the surface.
~~~~~~~~
Greenies protesting: Get a good position in front of the microwaves. You will make headlines.
But I was all set to take my microwave oven out in the back yard and become a modern-day Jed Clampett.
Who is the new BLM guy again? I would like to see him and Palin work together and have a bidding war on ANWR...if the current fraudulent governor gets in the way the tweet him away (seriously) with pols showing we want independence and drilling in ANWR.
I’m still not tired of winning.
Intriguing but I suspect not really commercial at present price of oil. You are talking about a huge amount of electrical energy to heat up the shale. It would have to be a shale that is of really high oil content and shallow for this to work. A bit like the tar sands in Canada. It is really all about energy costs to achieve x number of barrels of oil.
According to the link in Post # 37,
“Microwave fracking would only be an estimated 15 to 20 percent more expensive than conventional methods, causing oil giants British Petroleum and ConocoPhillips to heavily invest in the technology.”
And it’s cleaner.
Another benefit could be that if the process vaporizes the petroleum, maybe you could do some oil-refinery-type separation on site.
Another win for your list, Laz?
As to applicability, according to the newsmax article,
“Scientists indicate it could be especially useful in developing the mammoth Green River oil shale deposit in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.”
Me to...now I have to pack it back in!!! Darn it!!! lol...
With all this winn'en, I've been eat'en a lot of this stuff and that microwave would get'er done a whole lot faster:)
Yum! MAGA!
LOL!
Wow, now that is a bit of very new news.
Very cool!
Years back, the comparison was made that the area of ANWR (Artic National Wildlife Refuge) that they wanted to drill in was equivalent to a post card in the middle of a football field.
*** “equivalent to a post card in the middle of a football field” ***
Probably closer to a Postage Stamp
I care about the many Texas engineers and scientists who have been unemployed for months because of low oil prices and who are waiting for the world oil price to go back to $60/barrel, the level at which engineering companies start hiring again. But I also think that, if we plan to become the main energy supplier of the world, we shall have to install major oil facilities in our country, which will force engineering companies to hire for the design, operation and maintenance of these facilities. I also think that natural gas shall become more desirable as a fuel source than oil has been in the past due to environmental considerations. Our abundance of natural gas will become a major contributor to our national wealth, even more so than our oil. You also have to consider that gas requires less processing (expensive) than oil does before it becomes a marketable product. All in all, the program of making America energy independent will create an ocean of job opportunities, nation-wide for many years to last.
