last weekend almost two dozen refugees walked over the border from the U.S. into Canada. Officials in the municipality of Emerson-Franklin directly south of Winnipeg worry about dealing with the rising numbers as they seem to be increasing.
Doug Johnston a councilor for the municipality said:"This is right off the scale for us."
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) confirmed that 22 people had crossed the border for Noyes, Minnesota into the Emerson area in Manitoba Canada. Johnston said that this is more than he has ever seen within such a short period. Rita Chahai, director of the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council said that last week another 10 refugee claimant files had been opened. Chahai said:
"What we notice when they are in our office is that they are just extremely grateful and happy they have a chance at a fair hearing. To us, that's what is really important; that they are out of harm's way."
Most of the refugees come north to Manitoba through Minneapolis Minnesota. They are originally from such places as Somalia, Ghana and Djibouti. Four who arrived this weekend were from Somalia. Many of the refugees have no clue about weather conditions in Manitoba at this time of year and are not properly dressed. Johnston said he fears that some refugee is going to die if the number trying to get in increases while it is dead winter still.

When was the last time Refugees entered Canada from the US ,War of 1812 or the Civil War ?
Neither. Canada has never received “refugees” from the US. Some draft dodgers and criminals, yes.
22 so called “refugees” are “off the scale” ???
feel sorry for Germany they have 2 Million...
and how did people living in the US get to be “refugees” ???
theres Tim Hortons in Buffalo NY they can come back if they need their fix...
and I agree...as soon as I cross the border I always head for the closest Tim Horton’s
:)
Johnny Rebs from Tennessee would go to Canada during the War between the States but they weren’t refugees they were just hanging out having a respite from the fighting ...AKA AWOL...
one area in St Catherines was such a popular place it became known as Tennessee Street to this day...
:)
You asked for them, we are happy to deliver.
Canada does not take refugees from the US because the US itself is deemed a safe country for refugees. These people will probably be sent back. At least I hope so.
Canada will be building a wall when they get sick of them. And sick of the liberal(s) leading the country.
Yep. And it is an interesting crossing point. US 75 on the Minnesota side of the Red River and I-29 on the North Dakota side. Not the closest crossing to Minneapolis, St. Paul which is in the eastern side of the state, but the best road access.
There was even a skirmish in St. Albans, Vermont by some Confederate raiders who crossed over from Canada. They had to be treated as POWs, as I recall, because they put on the CSA uniforms before launching the raid.
Good! GTFO!
Hi Tennessee Nana!
Thanks for that neat info. I love trivia like that.
:)
I remember my Grandmother, who was from the South, saying “That is enough to feed Coxey’s army” or “There are enough of them to make up Coxey’s army”, etc. But she died before I could ask her who Coxey was. Her accent or pronunciation might have distorted what I heard.
Do you know who “Coxey” was?
Canada and Mexico actively support human trafficking in to the USA so they don’t have to deal with these “refugees.” But why would they send them to the evil racist xenophobic bigoted USA?
Here's a few who threatened to go to Canada if and when Trump was elected President.
Why the heck are they still here?
Can't they tell the truth about anything!
Let em freeze
Coxey’s army was a group of unemployed protestors who marched on Washington but it was decades after the civil war...
Thank you. I appreciate it.
I thought it was a Confederate general but couldn’t find one.
