the rule rule rule 19 and do you 0:31think do you think you violate the rules 0:33of the senate so I did not think I was 0:35violating the rules of the senate you 0:37know keep in mind that jeff sessions 0:40have been the US Attorney for Alabama 0:43back in the 1980s and he had prosecuted 0:46civil rights workers for trying to help 0:50elderly black voters get to the polls 0:53and so correct scott king who was just 0:57an eyewitness to history and all of this 0:59ended up writing a letter to the senate 1:02judiciary committee when Jeff session 1:05was nominated to be a federal judge and 1:08so I was reading from good letter to the 1:12senate judiciary committee from 1986 and 1:15I read this line mr. sessions has used 1:19the awesome power of his office to chill 1:23the free exercise of the vote by black 1:26citizens 1:27and that was it 1:29and you were totally shut down because 1:32you wanted to read that letter but in 1:342015 senator Ted Cruz called Mitch 1:37McConnell a liar from the Senate floor 1:39which violated rule 19 which is the same 1:42rule that they say you violated that 1:43what do you think 1:44McConnell didn't respond to that when he 1:47was the inn in office do you think that 1:49it was party loyalty or what look you 1:52have to ask mitch mcconnell about that 1:54but what I do know is that correct Scott 1:58King's words are deeply moving they are 2:02powerful and they described a moment in 2:05history and which jeff Sessions was an 2:09active participant they reveals much 2:12about jeff Sessions character and the 2:13Republicans don't want to who share his political 4:27opinion you know that the Coretta Scott 4:30King concluded her letter by saying 4:33based on his record right not on what 4:36conversations like based on his record i 4:39believe his confirmation would have a 4:42devastating effect not only on the 4:45judicial system and Alabama but also on 4:48the progress we have made everywhere 4:50towards fulfilling my husband's dream 4:53that he envisioned over 20 years ago 4:56that from the widow of Martin Luther 4:58King jr. said senator someone expressed 5:04concern that if you set the precedent on 5:06either Republican or Democrat side of 5:09breaking Senate rules on the floor to 5:10obstruct that it only leads to more cast 5:13and divisive nest and that it doesn't 5:14really accomplish anything what you're 5:16responsible to say about it 5:17my view is reading a sentence that says 5:20he has used the awesome power of his 5:23office to kill the free exercise of the 5:26vote by black citizens did not break any 5:29rules 5:29it is a factual statement exactly what 5:33is managed and you know it's directly 5:36relevant to the question of whether you 5:38should be attorney-general keep in mind this nation is not the 7:14character of this president it's the 7:16character of its people 7:18that's what really ok that's how it 7:24feels about this story i think is that 7:26it's getting is getting a lot of 7:27backlash they are getting back like this 7:29this hashtag elected speak and their 7:33t-shirts out there saying she persisted 7:36to think that any of this kind of 7:38backlash for protests you think they'll 7:41have any impact on jeff Sessions 7:43confirmation I mean there's been a lot 7:44of backlash on a lot of these nominees 7:46and they still got confirmed as far as i 7:48can tell you know what they've got the 7:51vote they may go ahead and confirm him i 7:53just have to be realistic 7:55we may not be able to stop it i'll tell 7:57you this that does not mean that we give 8:00up 8:00it has not mean that we lay down and die 8:03it means we get out there in street 8:05fighting at 8:06grassroots level I hope you're right 8:10because rush limbaugh has famously said
