A group of Republican senior statesmen is pushing for a carbon tax to combat the effects of climate change, and hoping to sell their plan to the White House.

Former Secretary of State Jim Baker is leading the effort, which also includes former Secretary of State George Shultz. In an opinion piece published Tuesday night in The Wall Street Journal, they argued “there is mounting evidence of problems with the atmosphere that are growing too compelling to ignore.” […]

Carbon taxes are designed to raise the cost of fossil fuels to bring down consumption. Baker and Shultz detailed in the opinion piece their plan for a gradually increasing carbon tax, with dividends being returned to people, as well as border adjustments for the carbon content of exports and imports and the rollback of regulations. …

I hope they enjoy the latest fraud stuffed down their throat, which I'm confident DjT would not overlook.

There is no need to reduce carbon.

I heard on FOX or some such just yesterday that NOAA lied about rising oceans. Instead of taking the temperature from the ocean, it took it from boats invalidating everything. These RINOs need to decide if they want to get re-elected or booted out of congress next election.

...

Shultz was involved with that fraudulent biotech in California. It looks like both of them have devolved to the point that they’ll do anything for money.

Statesman is generally defined as “A dead politician.”

Lord knows, we need more statesmen.

The GOP just can't stop trying to lose. It's in their very genes. Even now they stay true to form and try to score one for the opposing team. Hell, I think they are the opposing team!

This is a quite astonishing piece to have been written by a 96 year old and an 86 year old. I suspect that somebody else actually did the writing - which, if true, I find highly problematic.

Some years ago, Ross McKitrick, an economist and genuine climate skeptic, proposed a carbon tax that was tied to an agreed upon measure of the adverse effects of carbon. In other words, no measurable effects, no tax. Catastrophic effects, high tax. McKitrick’s approach makes sense to me. It will also force everybody to actually look at the consequences of fossil fuel use - the externalities, both the costs and benefits - and not simply the fact that we use them.

When Jim Baker, et. al., shows me their daily calendar with their checked-off breath-holding participation, I will start to listen to them.

When they swear off airplane travel, cars, trucks, electricity in their homes and eating meat (from CO2 producing animals) I'll listen to what they have to say.
