The Senate narrowly confirmed Betsy DeVos as education secretary on Tuesday, with Vice President Pence casting a historic tiebreaking vote after senators deadlocked over her fitness for the job.

The entire Democratic caucus of 48 senators voted against DeVos, as did two Republicans, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, who said they did not think that DeVos was qualified for the job. The remaining 50 Republicans voted for DeVos, setting up a 50-50 tie that Pence broke with his vote at about 12:30 p.m.

It marked the first time that a vice president’s tiebreaking vote was needed to confirm a Cabinet secretary, according to Daniel Holt, an assistant historian in the Senate Historical Office.

"...narrowly..."??? Who gives a rat's a**? The DIMs/LIBs LOST. President Trump and the American People won...especially the children (who possibly will stop being abused in many different ways by public school "educators"). Hahaha.

Yes, all Democrats vote in lockstep like the communist Party.

It’s because in prior terms such a nominee would have been filibustered. But we don’t do that any more. Thank you, Harry Reid.

The only time the NE Patriots were ahead was when they scored the WINNING TD in OT.

DeVos IS the Sec. of Education. Trump WINS.

By both parties he is being sabotaged. He has a lot of power though. And hopefully 8 years. Republicans are treating Trump like they treated the Tea Party and demonstrates their view toward the working class in this country. They are there to pay up and shut up.

The campaign ads write themselves, don't they?

Regardless of his attempts to say otherwise, a vote for Joe is a vote for Putz Schumer for Senate Majority Leader."

Murkowski has a 100% rating from the NEA, Collins 75%. The only two Republicans over 50%. Any further questions?

I have a question: does anybody have the $ amount that these two pocketed from the NEA?

Just what Kellyanne was talking about how the corrupt media leaves out the facts which IS BIAS. Not once has anyone in the hateful media pointed this out, instead they portrayed these two as standing on principle, etc. Corrupt Media Documentation #2895762768945783648

What a shame that two female senators allowed themselves to be used this way.

Sorry, but like Eve, they are so easy to deceive....

Last time I checked the U.S. education system was ranked somewhere between 17 to 25 on a global scale! I guess the DimbocRats are shooting for an even lower score!

Lisa is qualified because her dad was a Senator.
I guess that’s where we are as a country. Hereditary titles.

Yep - he’ll start “bucking his own party” to show “independence” next year for his re-election campaign, but the rest of the time mostly marches in lock step.

Yes, DeVos was "narrowly" confirmed, so she'll now "narrowly" serve as Secretary of Education, and her "narrowly" defined powers will be totally sufficient to "narrowly" obliterate the entrenched, corrupt elements who seek to destroy our childrens' minds and breed hatred for America.

Hallelujah! Our schoolkids might finally be able to learn about civics again, and be taught the founding documents and principles of our nation, and learn the true meaning of the words liberty, justice, and patriotism...
