Senate narrowly confirms Betsy DeVos as education secretary

The Senate narrowly confirmed Betsy DeVos as education secretary on Tuesday, with Vice President Pence casting a historic tiebreaking vote after senators deadlocked over her fitness for the job.

The entire Democratic caucus of 48 senators voted against DeVos, as did two Republicans, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, who said they did not think that DeVos was qualified for the job. The remaining 50 Republicans voted for DeVos, setting up a 50-50 tie that Pence broke with his vote at about 12:30 p.m.

It marked the first time that a vice president’s tiebreaking vote was needed to confirm a Cabinet secretary, according to Daniel Holt, an assistant historian in the Senate Historical Office.

A WIN it is, To look upon it as a small win, shows only small people.

The Bible instructs the victors as to their actions once a battle is won. There is no mercy shown to our enemies.

I’m sure Trump knew they’d scratch and bite like rabid wolverines the day he decided to run.

“Devos had a hard time because she was a Trump nominee”

No she had a hard time because she is a strong woman who has her own mind.

Thank you!!!

The common thread through all of the "fixes" you outline is that the Liberal/Progressive takeover of every aspect of America's so-called "education system"--from top to bottom thrives on such politically-and-bureaucratically-controlled "fixes."

Does anybody now remember that great and vocal Wisconsin Black advocate for "Choice" in schools, Polly Williams? She fought for the rights of minority students/parents' to exercise their choice, just as have the teachers in those failing schools who, knowing the failings in those schools, send their own kids to non-public schools.

To your point, an "educator" attending a so-called "Task Force on Excellence in Education" once convened by Bob Etheridge, during his stint as DPI head, commented that this "Task Force" was the fifth or sixth one he had participated in, and that not one of them had accomplished anything to improve the learning performance of children in the schools!

It's time to let "outsiders" try their hand at moving the education of children back to control by their own local parents and teachers--getting it out of the bureaucratic propaganda mills and their agenda for Progressive tyranny !

Winning is winning.

Murkowski has a 100% rating from the NEA, Collins 75%. The only two Republicans over 50%. Any further questions?

C-SPAN should have had a color announcer.

'For the first time ever, a nomination is going into overtime. Hand off to Pence. He's got room. He's got room. Confirmation!'

So as usual the Democrats vote in lockstep.

So much for the 'moderate' senators from WV and Missouri.

I've been telling anyone who will listen (and a lot who won't) that Joe Manchin is an 0bamorrhoid leftist puke, and not to be trusted. He's up for re-election in 2018. We need to replace him.
