Betsy DeVos Confirmed as Education Secretary; Pence Breaks Tie
NYTimes ^ | 2-7-2017 | EMMARIE HUETTEMAN

The Senate confirmed Betsy DeVos on Tuesday as education secretary, approving the embattled nominee only with the help of a historic tiebreaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence.

The 51-to-50 vote elevates Ms. DeVos — a wealthy philanthropist from Michigan who has devoted much of her life to expanding educational choice through charter schools and vouchers, but has limited experience with the public school system — to be steward of the nation’s schools.

“If you venture onto social media today. take your poncho.
The over-spray from the heads exploding will be quite epic.”

The liberal hysteria is EPIC...

The GOP just declared war on education with Betsy DeVos’s confirmation. If it’s not a fascist, Christian curriculum, they don’t want it.”

“Never thought it’d get worse than Trump...then he made nominations, and Pence voted for DeVos... America will never be great again.”

I’m laughing reading some of these. MOST are unsharable due to the hateful language.

There are between 1200 and 1400 positions needing Senate confirmation. At the present rate, it won’t all be done til 2020.

Let the educating begin.

SNL did a hit job on DeVos this weekend. I am thinking that 80% of the viewers did not even understand it. They were trying to say that she is dumb because she was never a teacher. Elites have a very high idea of themselves.

What does this mean for all the education lobbyists? Do half of them have to pick new sectors?

Smarty, we got to drain the swamp, these two witches placed their campaign war chest first and the kids education second.

These two Rino POS sold out to special interests that work for elections of Dems every time, making Dems stronger and against our priorities.

The GOP party apparatus needs to make them pay. These close majority give them security that we can’t live without their ilk. Primary them out.

Woohoo!
School Choice battle ready to start! Poor black and hispanic kids may go to schools that actually arms them with a good education for the first time in decades!
This is such a worthy fight. Let the Democrats stand and bar good schools from the reach of blacks, just like their forebears did to protect Jim Crowe!

I still can hear my mother saying, “There goes the education system.” when Shanker organized the teachers’ union in NYC. The public school system in NYC was regarded as the best. Where does it stand now?

“The Death of Education!”

The Death of American Education as it exists today is a very, very good thing. There may be nothing more destructive to our society than our current public education system. It’s the reason all the heat for H1-B’s...and that’s just a minor of aspect of its dysfunction. It is capable of producing mass quantities of Heroin addicts...but nothing more advanced than that.

Kill it...then kill it again. Make damned sure it is dead forever. Then build something else.

Including some of my MBA students, who can’t seem to form a coherent sentence in the the papers they hand in. Spelling, grammar, syntax, punctuation, sentence structure - you name it, they can’t do it.
