Fox Television's broadcast of Super Bowl LI on Sunday night drew a 48.8 overnight rating, according to Nielsen data released by the network, lower than the previous two Super Bowls.
(Snip)
Last year's Super Bowl drew a 49.0 overnight rating, while the Patriots' previous title game appearance in 2015 helped Comcast Corp's NBC television draw a 49.7 rating, the highest overnight rating on record.

Yes, it’s possible that roiders news is pissed because Trump’s America won last night, so they will want to paint it in the worst light possible through the ratings fail.
But the ads and the choice of lady gag gag was a blatant effort to push a lefty agenda, so they too failed to generate higher ratings.
“More liberal heads are exploding.”
You forgot to mention that the super bowl was (somehow)#racist. /s
Same here for all that you listed. Thanks!!
Streaming was relevant in the previous two super bowels, too, so that in itself is not enough to explain the ratings fail.
As for the blowout during the first 3 quarters, that is most probably a significant factor.
However, word got out that Brady was mounting a comeback, so many who tuned out ended up returning to watch the game.
Now trending..NFL fumbles the ball.
I watched mystery movies last night and didn’t care that there was a game.
(I didnt watch it.
Not sure how typical I am. But didnt watch due to:
Hearing the buzz about all the liberal commercials turned me off.
The NFL in general has turned me off.
Not excited about the Patriots or Atlanta being in the game.
Lady Gaga makes me gag. She is outspokenly liberal and didnt want to see or hear about her.)
Same reasons why I didn’t watch. Being that it turned out to be a good game, I can always watch it on Youtube and skip over all commercials and the anti-Trump stuff, and starve the NFL of ratings so they can’t keep increasing their ad prices.
Flipped again and it was tied.
Amazing.
Saw Brady for the first time. His accuracy is unbelievable.
Oh, and I’ll make sure that I boycott all companies that aired anti-Trump ads in the Superbowl. There is no way I will any products or services from companies who just gave me the middle finger. Starting with Budweiser.
Yes I boycotted the super bowel, too. Occassionally, I checked the FR thread on it and then participated in the pro-Trump celebration there when Brady and the Pats won.
Did the same on my desktop.
I’ve DSL so had poor definition and was going to go to a neighbor’s to watch but the game was so dull...
There are ways to watch live streaming games online where the NFL makes not a dime from your viewing.
I quit watching at half time thinking it was over. I should have know better!
I saw that song as a way of saying “Hey, we all live in this great country. Let’s get along and be good neighbors to each other.” But I could be wrong about the motivation, of course.
Watched the game, turned it off for the halftime show.
.
I’m sure that lots of people tuned out when it looked like Atlanta was going to win.
But they obviously were not knowledgeable about football play-off games.
The unexpected often happens in them.
.
Racist? You mean the pregame introduction o all pro black players from historically black colleges? Could there have been the reverse - all pro white players from historically white colleges?
I watched and was pleased by the overt patriotic theme - Johnny Cash singing “This Old Flag”. Luke Bryan singing the national anthem - even the halftime show only had subtle liberal political overtures -
She did go politic, big time.
I really don’t think this is an NFL problem. Could be. But I doubt it.
I think there are more people electing Netflix, Games, Free Republic, Skype, ...
There are just more things to do with your eyeballs than there used to be. The only thing that can slow it down would be faster population growth. Who could possibly favor that? We might actually have to import people into this country if that were the goal. Who could favor that? Oh, yeah, I think I’m starting to get it.
